Will Patrick Mahomes keep the Chiefs undefeated on Monday Night Football?
The Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will wrap up the Week 9 NFL slate in a Super Bowl 55 rematch. A lot has changed since these two teams met in the Super Bowl three years ago, but both will be looking for a win on Monday night.
Unfortunately for the Buccaneers, they will be coming into this one short-handed. Both wide receiver Mike Evans and Chris Godwin will be out. Godwin is set to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL while Evans is out with a hamstring. That leaves quarterback Baker Mayfield to lean on the run game and Jalen McMillan as his top pass-catching option. Mayfield is 0-2 against Mahomes all-time. However, their most famous matchup may be the 66-59 victory by Mayfield while he was at Oklahoma going up against Mahomes’ Texas Tech. The two quarterbacks combined for over 1200 yards passing and 12 touchdown passes in that game.
Mahomes has had the better NFL career, but is having a down season in 2024. He has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns, but the Chiefs remain an undefeated 7-0. A big reason for that has been the defense and timely plays by the offense.
According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chiefs are 9.5-point favorites in this game. That’s a huge spread, but understandable considering the Buccaneers will be without their two biggest playmakers on offense. It could be difficult for Mayfield to get anything going on the offensive side of the ball. While it is a big line, I am taking the Chiefs at Arrowhead to cover and win by 10.
The Pick: Chiefs (-9.5)
Season Record: 12-16
