Goff is a dark-horse contender for MVP after leading Detroit to an NFC-best 6-1 record
Former L.A. Rams quarterback Jared Goff is playing some of the best football of his career, which could result in him winning MVP in 2024. It is difficult to measure how Rams fans would feel about seeing their ex-QB win his first career MVP, but the evidence supporting Goff’s case has been overwhelming.
The Lions are an NFC-best 6-1 because Goff has simply been en fuego during his team’s five-game winning streak. CBS Sports writer Douglas Clawson shared some of the signal caller’s stats throughout the streak and they are otherworldly:
“[Goff’s] posted an 83% completion rate and 146.5 passer rating during Detroit’s five-game win streak, both the best marks by any player in any five-game span in NFL history (minimum 100 attempts). The Lions are the first team on record (since at least 1940) with more touchdowns (25) than incompletions (20) in a five-game span within a season.”
LA fans used to mock — okay, they probably still do — Goff for his struggles against pressure. That has not been a problem this season as he has completed 22-of-29 passes for 326 yards while under pressure during the Lions’ winning streak, and he ranks first overall in completion rate (69%), second in yards per attempt (9.1) and third in pass success rate (39%) when pressured.
Goff’s progress in that department is a key reason why he is viewed as a dark-horse MVP candidate. Try telling that to a Rams fan back in 2020.
Jared Goff’s passer rating under pressure throughout his career:
2024: 95.4 (5th)
2023: 62.5 (28th)
2022: 59.6 (30th)
2021: 69.2 (19th)
2020: 45.9 (32nd)
2019: 60.4 (26th)
2018: 59.8 (29th)
2017: 75.7 (12th)
2016: 47.5 (30th)His development this season is incredible! pic.twitter.com/TmPZYiYEKY

Assuming the Lions keep winning and Goff continues putting up huge numbers, voters would have little reason not to crown the veteran QB as this season’s MVP. It would be pretty hard to argue otherwise if he maintains his hot streak.
While the Rams won the Goff trade immediately following a Super Bowl win in their first season with Matthew Stafford, the arrow is shifting in Detroit’s favor. The Lions have been one of the NFL’s best teams since the second half of the 2022 campaign, and they’re only getting better with Goff each week.
My question for you Turf Show Ramily, is whether you would be fine with Goff winning MVP this season. What about if he also wins a Super Bowl? Bonus question: would the Lions win the Stafford-Goff trade if the franchise wins its first Lombardi Trophy? Some fans are getting tired of being asked these questions, but it’s looking like it might become a reality.
Let me know what you think about these questions in the comments and go Rams!
