Giants will be using their third placekicker on Sunday
New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocol and is expected to play Sunday against the Washington Commanders.
Tracy, a rookie fifth-round pick, has two 100+ yard rushing games in the last four weeks, and is the teams’ leading rusher. He has 376 yards rushing and is averaging 5.2 yards per carry. Tracy had a career-best 145 yards rushing on 20 carries before suffering his concussion Monday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Giants will be without placekicker Greg Joseph. He was not listed on the team’s injury report all week, but on Friday was listed as OUT with an abdominal issue.
Joseph has made 13 of 16 field goals (81.3%) with a long kick of 52 yards as the replacement for Graham Gano, who is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Per ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan, Joseph has an oblique injury. Per the Giants, that injury was confirmed on Friday.
The Giants have rookie placekicker Jude McAtamney on their practice squad. Will they elevate him or sign a veteran kicker? One option might be Randy Bullock, who was 5 of 6 on field-goal attempts in six games for the Giants while filling in for Gano last season. The 34-year-old is a free agent.
Punter Jamie Gillan will miss a fourth straight game with a left hamstring injury. Matt Haack will again punt in his place.
