Jakob Johnson, Gervarrius Owens are let go
The New York Giants switched a pair of practice squad spots on Wednesday, adding a pair of rookie offensive linemen for depth.
The Giants added offensive tackle Garret Greenfield and offensive lineman Marcellus Johnson to the practice squad.
They released safety Gervarrius Owens and fullback Jakob Johnson to make room.
Greenfield, 6-foot-6, 310 pounds, played collegiately at South Dakota State. He joined the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent, but was waived at the end of the preseason. He spent a couple of days on Seattle’s practice squad, but has been looking for work since Aug. 30.
Johnson, 6-4, 307 pounds, signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri. He was released at the end of the preseason, spent a couple of weeks on the practice, was released, and landed with the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. Johnson was released on Tuesday.
Johnson has tackle/guard flexibility.
Owens was a seventh-round pick by the Giants in 2023. He played in three games last season, but has been spent this season on the practice squad.
Johnson has bounced between the 53-man roster and practice squad several times this season. A six-year veteran, he has appeared in three games for the Giants this season.
