The Colts lost a special teams safety to what appears to be a very significant knee injury.

On Monday, the Indianapolis Colts also announced that the team has placed safety Trevor Denbow (knee) on injured reserve and re-signed fellow safety Ronnie Harrison Jr. to the 53-man active roster.

The team also signed offensive tackle Sebastian Gutierrez and offensive guard Josh Sills to the practice squad and released offensive tackle Jack Wilson in a corresponding move.

Per the IndyStar’s Joel Erickson, Denbow suffered injuries to multiple ligaments and cartilage in his knee during the first quarter of Sunday’s road loss to the Houston Texans.

He was later seen wearing a big brace on his right leg/crutches and was using crutches (via The Athletic’s James Boyd).

Signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Colts out of SMU in 2022, Denbow has largely made his mark on special teams—playing 65% of the team’s special teams snaps so far during the 2024 campaign. He’s recorded a tackle during 8 games this season.

Harrison Jr. is a veteran SAF, who played with the Colts during the 2023 campaign, recording 20 tackles (11 solo), 2 interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 2 passes deflected, and a sack during 7 games (3 starts).

He was in the training camp competition for the other starting safety spot alongside Julian Blackmon, but came up short—and was released as part of final 53-man roster cuts. He had a brief stint on the Colts practice squad this season, appearing in one game during 2024.
