The Tee Higgins injury gave Jermaine Burton a chance.
Against the Philadelphia Eagles, Amarius Mims played 100% of the offensive snaps, which, given the Cincinnati Bengal’s tendency to redshirt their first-round picks and Mims’ injury history, is a win. Mims had some struggles in this game, but he continues to look like a solid pick and a potential cornerstone piece of this team for years to come.
On the defensive line, second-round Pick Kris Jenkins played more than half of the snaps and made three tackles. Third-round Selection McKinnley Jackson had a tackle of his own, playing 13 snaps. Both had some issues at the point of attack and were getting pushed around too much in the loss.
In Tee Higgins’s absence, third-round Selection Jermaine Burton saw his first major action, playing 24 snaps (41%). He was targeted three times and had one reception for a 41-yard gain, but he had some assignment breakdowns.
Tight end Erick All had an explosive reception of his own. One of his two catches went for 28 yards. The fourth-round Pick continued to play a significant role as a blocker and played just as many snaps as Burton.
Fifth-round cornerback Josh Newton saw some action on defense but played 13 snaps on special teams. Seventh-rounder Matt Lee was an extra OL on one play but played the majority of his snaps on the field goal unit. UDFA linebacker Maema Njongmeta also played a large role on special teams.
And of course, that is where you see fellow UDFA punter Ryan Rehkow contributing, though the Bengals did not punt in this game. He was still the holder for both PAT and field goal attempts.
