Miami’s Pro Bowl pass rusher isn’t ready to hit the field just yet.
Miami Dolphins edge rusher Bradley Chubb hasn’t practiced since an ACL injury late in last season’s 56-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 31. Chubb began the season on the Physically Unable to Perform List and it doesn’t seem his practice window will open ahead of Miami’s Week 8 game against the Buffalo Bills.
“[Chubb]’s not on my radar right now because guys get on my radar when they start getting close and I just check in to make sure things are going appropriately and we don’t have major things happen,” coach Mike McDaniel said when asked about this week’s availability. “I don’t see that timeline. I think having a ACL plus in terms of what type of injury he had around New Year’s Day, I wasn’t expecting him as of yet, and I think he’s going to continue to work to try to get back sooner than later, but it’s not on my immediate horizon.”
Chubb, 28, logged 73 tackles 11 sacks and a league-high six forced fumbles before his season-ending injury in Week 17. This is the second season of his five-year contract extension he joined when traded from the Denver Broncos in 2022. He’s under contract through 2027 and projects to count as 10.5% of Miami’s salary cap next season.
The Dolphins desperately need help on the edge after sacking opposing quarterbacks just three times over the last four games. The defense ranks No. 30 with 1.3 sacks per game.
Jevón Holland week-to-week with knee injury
Safety Jevón Holland exited Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with a knee injury but isn’t expected to miss significant time. Miami’s fourth-year safety played 17 snaps before Marcus Maye stepped in.
“The info is that it wasn’t serious by measure of surgery or extended time,” McDaniel said. “I think it’s still a little too early to tell what it means for this week. So it’s kind of in that area that you just don’t want to get ahead of yourself too soon. Right now it feels like it might be week-to-week.”
Holland, 24, has 26 tackles and a forced fumble through six games. The Dolphins have held opponents to an average of 18 points over the last three games but could use Holland’s play-making ability with a trip to Buffalo quickly approaching.
