The Linc – List of NFL trade proposals includes Maxx Crosby to the Eagles

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 10/27/24.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Six trade proposals, including Myles Garrett, plus: Healthy star returns for Rams-Vikings – The Athletic
Eagles acquire DE Maxx Crosby, sending the Raiders a 2025 first, fourth and fifth-round pick, plus a 2026 second-rounder. Hear me out. GM Howie Roseman has a history of successfully acquiring big-name, win-now talent — A.J. Brown cost a first and third in 2022 — and has two extra fifths this year, plus the Jets’ third in 2026. Crosby would need to accept a contract restructure, but he’d give Philly a needed edge rusher to improve its middling pass rush (15th in pass rush win rate) and give himself a shot at a Super Bowl.

NFL trade deadline: Which players are available and unavailable ahead of Nov. 5? – NFL.com
Sources say several teams called Tennessee with one specific player in mind: Two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. Despite the interest, those teams were all told the same refrain: Not happening. In today’s NFL, with more trade-happy general managers than ever, it never hurts to ask. Those calls can happen this time of year when teams catch wind of teams willing to trade their top players. The list is extremely short of players leaguewide who would not be available if another team was willing to give up, say, two first-round picks and possibly more. In addition to the Titans, several other struggling teams have been getting called about their top defenders. The responses, however, have been similar to calls for Simmons. The Browns do not plan to trade superstar end Myles Garrett, despite teams calling after they traded Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills, sources say. The Las Vegas Raiders also do not plan to trade Maxx Crosby after they dealt Davante Adams, sources say. Could the Rams have traded Cooper Kupp if they did not win two in a row to improve to 3-4 and Sean McVay shut down talks by saying he expects Kupp to stay? We’ll never know. But teams called and the Rams at least heard them out.

Tee Higgins injury update: “Real chance” Bengals wide receiver misses Eagles game – BGN
Higgins was officially ruled questionable to play on Friday’s injury report. We’ll see if he’s suiting up or not for sure when inactives are announced at 11:30 AM Eastern on Sunday morning. It’s a pretty big deal if Higgins can’t play. He has 29 catches for 341 yards and three touchdowns this season. The Bengals still have Ja’Marr Chase, who is excellent and leads his team with 39 catches for 620 yards and six touchdowns. But the Eagles will be able to dedicate more attention to Cincy’s top target if Higgins isn’t on the field.

5 Questions with the Enemy: Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation – Cincy Jungle
The Cincinnati Bengals have an exciting inter-conference matchup this Sunday as they seek their first home win of the 2024 season against the Eagles. They’ll look to do so as narrow 1.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel. To get the lay of the land of what’s going on in Philly, we tapped the knowledge of Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation.

Game Preview – PHI at CIN – Iggles Blitz
The NFL is all about matchups so let’s talk about how these teams match up. The Bengals struggle in run defense. They are 22nd in yards allowed and have given up 149 or more yards in 4 of 7 games so far this year. That’s not ideal when facing red hot Saquon Barkley. The Eagles are going to feed the ball to Barkley. He’s got at least 17 carries in every game except the blowout loss to Tampa. The Bengals could decide to load the box to try and handle Barkley. They would be daring Jalen Hurts to beat them. Hurts has been up and down this season as a passer. Cincy’s pass defense is middle of the road this year. It is vulnerable on the outside.

Top NFL matchups to target for Week 8 betting – PFF
The Bengals rank sixth-worst in the NFL in quick pressure rate, which could benefit an Eagles offense that has struggled with quick pressure this season. Hurts should have more time in the pocket, allowing him to dissect the Bengals’ secondary and regain his rhythm. Pass rush and coverage are interconnected; the Bengals’ struggles to generate quick pressure also impact their coverage effectiveness. They hold the league’s lowest perfect coverage rate, a critical metric, as PFF research shows that consistently executing perfectly covered plays significantly impacts game outcomes. Hurts has faced an average rate of non-perfectly covered plays, but he ranks among the NFL’s top players in EPA on those opportunities. With more time in the pocket and against a secondary that struggles to achieve perfect coverage, Hurts appears well-positioned to capitalize. I’ll be targeting Hurts’ prop overs, the Eagles’ team total overs, and some same-game parlays that project success for Philadelphia through the air.

NFL Week 8 predictions, fantasy sleepers, upset picks, buzz – ESPN+
Solak: Favorite upset pick for Week 8. The 4-2 Eagles aren’t the juggernaut they used to be, but they have a lot of firepower on offense with A.J. Brown through the air and Saquon Barkley on the ground. The defense, which was slow to start the season, has feasted recently on bad offenses in Cleveland and New York. Now the Eagles get the Bengals, who are scary through the air but missing both starting tackles due to injury. I expect a lot of points in this one, but the Eagles’ pass rush can win if they get the Bengals on a clear passing script.

Game Preview: Eagles vs. Bengals – PE.com
3. Continue the great play in the red zone. In case you haven’t noticed, the Eagles have been flat-out great in the red zone – they are second defensively in red zone touchdown efficiency, allowing only 39 percent. The offense is at 71.4 percent touchdown efficiency in the last three weeks. This is one statistic that always matters, and against a team that can score in bunches as the Bengals can, touchdowns win games.

Eagles notebook: A memorable 1st NFL sack for Jalyx Hunt – NBCSP
Eagles third-round pick Jalyx Hunt got some extended playing time in the blowout over the Giants and made the most of it. The 23-year-old picked up his first-career sack in the fourth quarter. “It was crazy, man. It was cool,” Hunt said this week. “The coolest part, though, was just coming off the field and everybody was like, ‘Congratulations!’ That was cool. That was real cool. I’m mad we didn’t get the ball on the strip sack. That would have been cool to get on the takeaway board.” As Hunt made his way to the Eagles’ sideline at MetLife Stadium, he was mobbed by his teammates, who were all excited to see him get on the board.

Haason Reddick to make Jets debut Week 8 vs. Patriots – Gang Green Nation
How much Reddick will play is an open question. It would seem reasonable to expect him to be on some sort of pitch count after missing training camp and the first seven weeks of the season. Reddick is likely in very good physical condition, but there of course is a difference between being in good shape and being in good football shape. The Jets might be looking to ease him back into the lineup.

Jayden Daniels Injury Status: Will Washington QB play in Week 8? – SB Nation
Game day update: The Commanders will need to see how Jayden Daniels is looking in pre-game warmups before making a final decision about his status, per Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter. However, both reporters indicated there is a good chance he plays on Sunday.

Adam Schefter: Signs point toward Jayden Daniels playing today – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders made QB Jayden Daniels a game-time decision due to his rib injury from last week. He’s officially listed as questionable, but Adam Schefter reports that all signs point to him playing against the Chicago Bears today.

Week 8 could bring a major swing in NFC East race – Blogging The Boys
The problem for Dallas is that their own Week 8 opponent, the San Francisco 49ers, have been a major issue the last few years. The Niners have won three straight against the Cowboys, two of them playoff games and the last one a 42-10 blowout. With neither Micah Parsons nor DaRon Bland returning this week, even with Frisco’s own injuries, Dallas seems ill-equipped to exercise this particular demon. We’ll know the divisional stakes before kickoff. If either the Commanders or Eagles fall in their games, let alone both, it sweetens the deal for Dallas if they can get the road win. At the very least, it would provide some cushion against a loss. But if Washington and Philadelphia win their games, it could give a struggling Cowboys team a deeper hole to climb out of.

Giants-Steelers injuries: RT Jermaine Eluemunor listed as ‘questionable’ – Big Blue View
The good injury news for the New York Giants heading into Monday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers is that right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor is trending toward playing. The bad news is they could be exceptionally thin in the defensive secondary. Eluemunor was listed as ‘Did Not Practice’ on Saturday due to a hip injury, but the veteran offensive lineman has promised to play Monday night. “I think he’ll be okay,” head coach Brian Daboll said Saturday. “But I can’t guarantee it.” The Giants are already using Josh Ezeudu at left tackle in place of Andrew Thomas, out for the season after foot surgery. If Eluemunor can’t play, Evan Neal will get his first snaps of the season at right tackle.
