Kyren Williams floated as ‘best fit’ for NFC playoff contender

USA Today names Cowboys as a “best fit” for the Rams RB at NFL trade deadline

Despite winning on Thursday night, trade rumors continue following the L.A. Rams, and for once they don’t involve Cooper Kupp. In an Oct. 24 article, USA Today writer Jacob Camenker floated All-Pro running back Kyren Williams as a potential “best fit” for the Cowboys at the 2024 NFL trade deadline.

Camenker said Dallas “should be on the shortlist” of teams reaching out to Les Snead and LA if Williams becomes available:

“Consider getting Williams a dream scenario for Dallas fans. If the Los Angeles Rams fall far enough out of contention, perhaps they will consider offloading the reasonably priced Williams while allowing 2024 third-round pick Blake Corum to prove himself as their top runner.

Williams would give the Cowboys a true, three-down threat at running back. His bruising ability could even remind some of what [Ezekiel] Elliott accomplished during his younger days in Dallas.”

Regardless, this would be a dream scenario because it is nothing more than pure fantasy. Fans who watched the Rams defeat the Vikings — and don’t tell me they were handed the game because that wasn’t the case — saw LA was a much different team with a healthy Kupp and Puka Nacua in the lineup. Who would’ve thought?

Williams has been the most consistent part of the Rams’ offense this season. He is a clear difference-maker who has scored a touchdown in every game through the first seven weeks. It is unimaginable to fathom Snead parting ways with LA’s top offensive playmaker.

It just will not happen and the team would be quite foolish to even consider listening to trade offers for the star given his production.

The Rams are closer to re-signing Williams to an extension in the offseason than they are to trading him.

Whether or not Los Angeles trades Williams (they won’t), the coaching staff must give additional opportunities to rookie Blake Corum. The Michigan product has only 22 total touches for 90 scrimmage yards in seven games. Corum deserves greater chances even with Williams handling the bulk of the carries.

LA has won three of its last five games after an 0-2 start and has a reasonably favorable upcoming schedule. On the docket are the Seahawks, Patriots and Saints which are all winnable matchups. Having Kupp and Nacua back will make life much easier for everyone, and their presence alone should firmly thrust the Rams back into the NFC playoff picture.

Kyren Williams has been a significant contributor to LA’s three wins and as long as maintains his stellar production, things will only go up from here in Hollywood.
