Week 8 updates.
The Philadelphia Eagles officially announced one roster move ahead of their Week 8 road game against the Cincinnati Bengals. An overview:
- WR Ainias Smith was activated from injured reserve to the roster.
AINIAS SMITH
The Eagles opened Smith’s 21-day practice window earlier this month on October 7, meaning they had until October 28 to either activate him to the roster or shut him down for the season.
Smith unexpectedly went on injured reserve shortly before roster cuts down to 53 players (hmm) in late August. He struggled mightily early on in training camp, dropping passes and muffing punts. But the rookie seemed to find his footing as August went along.
Now on the active roster, Smith figures to be the fifth wide receiver behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jahan Dotson, and Johnny Wilson. He also provides punt returner depth behind Cooper DeJean.
The Eagles had an open roster spot for Smith after placing Byron Young on injured reserve on Friday afternoon.
NOTABLE NON-MOVES
For the second week in a row, the Eagles are entering a game with just two healthy tight ends: Grant Calcaterra and Jack Stoll. Dallas Goedert was ruled out once again due to his hamstring injury.
The team notably did not opt to either 1) activate Albert Okwuegbunam from injured reserve or 2) temporarily elevate E.J. Jenkins or C.J. Uzomah to have a third tight end behind the top two.
