The move drives speculation on the future of the coaching staff.
The Cleveland Browns are searching for solutions to win a game after losing their embattled starting quarterback, Deshaun Watson. Through the first seven weeks, they have possessed the league’s worst-ranked offensive unit, and now we will finally see the wholesale changes that many have been calling for.
During his media availability on Wednesday, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that it would in fact be Jameis Winston starting at quarterback this week in place of Watson. Stefanski would also drop an unexpected bomb on the media by saying that Ken Dorsey would be the one calling the plays.
The latter is a significant change to Stefanski’s approach during his time as head coach. Of course, the timing of this seems strange, relegating the duties to the guy who developed the offense for Watson after his season ended.
When asked about the timing, he stated, “Yeah, I’m just always looking at what we can do to just be a little bit better, and truth is we have to better on offense, and Coach Dors is somebody that I rely on very heavily and I just feel like this is the right thing for the team.”
It is the kind of move that will lead everyone to speculate on possible changes after the season. Stefanski didn’t appear to be focused on any of that as he emphasized he was doing what he thought was best for the team.
