Other Giant observations
Giants are going nowhere with Daniel Jones as quarterback: Politi | nj.com
How much more do we need to see?
Daniel Jones played his 67th game as an NFL quarterback on Sunday night for the Giants. He threw another brutal interception that should never have left his right hand to kill a promising first-half drive. He completed barely half of his attempts (22 of 41 for 205 yards) against a defense that ranked 26th in the league coming into the game.
Daboll: We need explosive plays on offense
Brian Daboll says the Giants’ “inability to generate explosive plays” is a big reason why they aren’t where they want to be

Notes & Stats: Sunday Night Football Recap | Giants.com
The Giants’ longest reception was 15 yards – two by Wan’Dale Robinson and one each by Slayton and tight end Theo Johnson. Jalin Hyatt caught his first pass of the season, a six-yarder.

“C.” Brian Daboll brought a bold new fourth-down mindset to this game, but it still wasn’t enough to pull out the win. The Giants went for it on five different four downs and they converted three of them, but they couldn’t close out their drives. If Daboll keeps this bold mindset going forward, it should work even better once Malik Nabers is back in the lineup, but for now, the Giants’ biggest problem continues to be an offense that struggles to make a big plays when the team needs them the most.
Daniel Jones: NY Giants QB with another reminder of uncertain future | The Record
Jones has played 33 home games and 33 away games in his career, and the splits are staggering. He has thrown 27 touchdowns and 30 interceptions at home in his career; on the road, Jones has 41 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions.

Again: This was not the disaster you saw from the Giants quarterback in the opener against the Vikings. He wasn’t horrendous or incompetent. Credit Brian Daboll for that. He knows how to call a game to squeeze every ounce out of his quarterback. There’s just a limit – there’s always been a limit. Sometimes the Giants survive it. Far too often it’s exposed when they need him most.
Giants’ offensive ineptitude risks fracturing locker room as defense does its job | New York Post
Meanwhile, the Giants on defense for new coordinator Shane Bowen have not allowed more than 21 points in any game — there was a Pick Six interception return by the Vikings in the opener.
Members of the Giants defense did not say anything to indicate there is a problem brewing but human nature is what it is. The defense cannot be expected to be a top-five unit — the secondary is too young for such lofty status. It is difficult for players to discuss losses when they know they deserved better. With Thibodeaux missing his first game of the season, Brian Burns played his best game thus far for his new team, with one sack, eight tackles, two tackles for loss and two quarterback hits. He was a disruptive force. After so many losing years with the Panthers, Burns is getting more of the same with the Giants.
Tyler Nubin continues to be a standout
Tyler Nubin flew down from 12 yards of depth, ran through a Chase blocking attempt, and tackled Brown for a 2-yard loss.
McFadden blitzed the play-side A-Gap and was eliminated from the play.
Good job by Davidson, Flott, Patrick Johnson, and also Lawrence for putting himself in… pic.twitter.com/9JfQTj2ul7

Still, the defense’s performance shouldn’t be overlooked. It held the high-octane Bengals offense to their second-lowest yardage output (309) of the season; it got off the field — Cincinnati converted just 4-of-11 third downs — and harassed quarterback Joe Burrow (four sacks and seven QB hits). It limited the Bengals all-star duo at wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase (five catches, 72 yards) and Tee Higgins (seven catches, 77 yards), to mostly low-impact plays.
2024 NFL Week 6: Top Takeaways for Every Game | Bleacher Report
The Giants rank in the bottom four in scoring offense, yet they’re top-10 in scoring defense. In the two instances that Daniel Jones and Co. managed to score at least 20 points, New York won. The team has averaged 11.5 points in its four losses.
What we learned from New York Giants’ 17-7 loss to Cincinnati Bengals | USAToday.com
The Bengals came in with a full complement of offensive weapons Sunday night. Both stud wideouts, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, were healthy and raring to go. But the Giants’ young secondary was up to the task. Neither player reached the end zone and — for the sixth game this season — the Giants did not surrender 100-plus yards receiving to a single wide receiver. Chase caught five passes for 72 yards with a long of 33. Higgins has a seven-catch, 77-yard night with a long of 24.
Azeez Ojulari made the most of his opportunity

Lions receive: Azeez Ojulari Giants receive: 2025 fourth-round pick, 2026 third-round pick
Of the players mentioned on this list, Azeez Ojulari might be the most attainable. At 24 years old, Ojulari is still waiting for his breakout season, but he’s flashing more frequently in his fourth NFL season. He already has three sacks through six games and is coming off his best performance of the season for the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.

11. New York Giants Carson Beck, QB, Georgia. Whether or not a resurgence of the New York Giants offense happens under Brian Daboll, I’d love to see them fully embrace a new direction at quarterback. Carson Beck has been maligned this season for his struggles without 2023’s top pass catchers (Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey are sorely missed). But his production has steadily risen, and he has good traits in just about every phase of the position — from his arm to his athleticism and processing.

Lane Johnson: We’re a constipated offense | Pro Football Talk
“We’re a constipated offense,” Johnson said. “That’s what it fucking feels like. . . . We’re definitely frustrated. We have a lot of ability, a lot of talent and we are making games more competitive than they need to be. It’s something that we’ve got to fix. As far as talent-wise, this is one of the more loaded offenses I’ve been a part of but we still have to go prove it.”
NFL Week 6 Recap: Philadelphia Eagles 20, Cleveland Browns 16
Eagles receiver A.J. Brown was dominant in his return to the field after missing Weeks 2, 3 and 4 with a hamstring injury. Brown hauled in all six of his catchable targets — though he was targeted nine times on the day — for 117 yards, one touchdown and four first downs. The veteran receiver went a perfect 4-for-4 on contested targets, forced four missed tackles after the catch and came away with four plays of 15 or more yards. He finished the game with a 92.0 PFF grade on the first review.

Tight end Dallas Goedert was ruled out with a hamstring injury, while cornerback Darius Slay left with a knee injury. Perhaps most alarmingly, left tackle Jordan Mailata exited with a hamstring injury, was carted to the locker room and did not return.
Nick Sirianni jaws with fans after Eagles’ narrow win over the Browns | Bleeding Green Nation
The overall performance against the Browns didn’t exactly merit a “talk your shit” vibe from Sirianni, but he’s undoubtedly heard all the noise about his job security these past few weeks — not to mention fans yelling to him about it on Sunday — and took the opportunity to remind fans that he’s still a very winning coach for this city.
Fans are justifiably frustrated at how this talented team has yet to live up to their potential, and Sirianni is justifiably proud that they move forward with a winning, 3-2, record. Both things can be true, and if the team can string together a couple more wins, those “Fire Sirianni” chants might end altogether. (They should, but they probably won’t.)
