Wagers to consider as you fill out your tickets

Welcome to the New York Giants betting angle, Week 6 edition! Each week, I’m giving you my three favorite wagers for that week’s New York Giants game. This week, the 2-3 Giants return home after a very successful trip to Seattle, to face a 1-4 Bengals squad that lost a heartbreaker in overtime to the division-rival Ravens last Sunday, 41-38. The Bengals lost that shootout despite a monster passing performance by red-hot quarterback Joe Burrow, who completed 30-of-39 passes for 392 yards, with five TDs and one INT. The problem was the defense, which gave up points to Lamar Jackson and company just as quickly as the offense could post them. The Ravens had 520 net yards of offense and 30 first downs, and converted on 10-of-15 third downs. Cincinnati’s playoff hopes are rapidly slipping away, and they need a win in the worst way. The Giants are looking to build some momentum, and hope to even their record at 3-3. It’s a big game for both teams, and it’ll have plenty of eyeballs on it as it’s the Sunday night game. For Big Blue, it’s their second prime time game in three weeks.

On the injury front, Giant’s star rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers (concussion) has already been ruled out for the second straight week, and OLB/edge Kayvon Thibodeaux will also miss Week 6. Cincinnati lost starting CB Daxton Hill to a torn ACL in the Baltimore game. The spread is Cincinnati -3.5, with a game total of 47.5.

I lost all three of my bets last week, one week after going 3-0. In my defense, I had to make my picks before Nabers and Devin Singletary were ruled out, and there were very few props to choose from. I’ll try to do better this week, but you’ve been warned that I’m coming in cold.

OK, let’s get to this week’s picks. All lines and odds are from FanDuel and are as of Friday morning, October 11.

The hottest QB-WR duo in the game comes to MetLife

1. Giants PLUS 3 ½ (-104). This is the first time I’m picking a side this year. It’s time. I know the Bengals are thought of as an upper-echelon team, but as Coach Parcells used to say, you are what your record says you are. With very few exceptions, I don’t think the 1-4 Bengals should be giving anyone more than a field goal on the road. Their defense is struggling and the Big Blue offense has moved the ball well the last three weeks. I like getting the hook here, at basically even money.

2. Darius Slayton OVER 4.5 receptions (+122). With Nabers out of the lineup in New York’s 29-20 win over Seattle, Slayton stepped up and caught eight passes for 122 yards and a TD, on 11 targets. His 32% target share is noteworthy, as Daniel Jones continues to funnel passes to his top two receiving options. Jones attempted 34 passes at Seattle and that number could go up on Sunday night in what I think will be a high-scoring game. If you’ve been reading my fantasy football columns, you know I’ve been on Big Play Slay for two weeks running. I like this number a lot, and especially at plus-money and with Cincinnati having just lost its best corner.

3. Ja’Marr Chase ANYTIME TD (-105). The Giants managed to keep D.K. Metcalf out of the endzone last week, but they’ve faced some really good #1 WRs this season and they’ve struggled to contain them. Chase is on fire, with five TD catches in his last three games. That accounts for half of the 10 TD passes that Burrow has thrown in those same three contests. I like all of the above trends for this bet. While I’m sure the Giants will want to bracket the electric Chase as much as they can, that’s tough to do with Tee Higgins on the other side, and a QB who spreads the ball around to whoever is open. If this game ends up being a shootout, Chase will play a big part in it.

Those are the picks for Week 6. Good luck with your wagers!
