Meko and Morgan are back on the Pride of Detroit YouTube channel, revisiting the all-22 film from the Lions’ Week 2 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
During the Detroit Lions Week 5 bye, my good friend Meko Scott posted a poll to Twitter asking fans what game they would like to see broken down while the Lions are getting their rest in. And while it was close for a while, the vote ended up with the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers being the winner.
For obvious reasons, the game against Tampa Bay was not the most pleasant game to revisit. Despite leading in most statistics confined within a box score, the Lions’ 1-of-7 performance in the red zone was the biggest reason they ended up with their only loss of the season so far.
Meko and I (Morgan) went back and broke down four of the Lions’ red zone trips, and dove into why the team was so inefficient that day when it came to putting points on the board. As usual, it wasn’t one factor that led to the subpar performance, but rather a combination of play-calling, execution, and other issues.
Luckily for the Lions, it seems as though some of these problems have been taken care of since Week 2. We have seen the offense lean back into what they do best—run the ball behind their elite offensive line, and in doing so, the play-action game has come alive for quarterback Jared Goff.
