The Giants conducted an offensive clinic early in Sunday’s game
The New York Giants were down seven after their offense executed an efficient 16-play, 79-yard drive. On the final play of the first drive, Eric Gray put the ball on the deck and the Seattle Seahawks returned the fumble 102 yards to take the lead.
The Giants’ offense went three-and-out on their ensuing drive. The Giants’ defense forced Geno Smith and the Seahawks to punt in three plays, giving Daniel Jones the football back down seven on the road. Jones lead an eight-play, 81-yard touchdown drive to even the score at seven.
Prior to that drive, the Giants out-gained the Seahawks 87-22 yards on their two drives, yet it was Seattle in the lead. The Giants’ offense needed another drive to even the score, lest Smith could drive Seattle down, establish a rhythm, and possibly go up multiple scores at home; this scenario would have hindered the Giants’ dynamic defensive performance.
Brian Daboll designed an excellent drive and Jones executed with decisive precision. Jones had answers for Mike Macdonald’s simulated pressure, his weak-side blitzes, and the Giants’ rushing attack abused Seattle’s two-high looks. Daboll married the run-and-pass looks through the drive, and the end result was a 7-yard touchdown pass to Wan’Dale Robinson.
The drive was a clinic for Daboll and the Giants. I detail all eight plays on this pivotal drive in the video below:
