Another massive blow to the Bengals defense.

The Cincinnati Bengals were already short-handed in the secondary, missing Mike Hilton, who was out with a knee injury in Week 5, when Dax Hill limped off the field and went to the locker room.

He didn’t return, and now, according to Ian Rapoport, it looks as if he’ll be done for the season with a torn ACL.

Here’s the report on Twitter.

Hill, selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of the University of Michigan, was originally brought to Cincinnati to replace Jessie Bates, the team’s two-time NFL second-team All Pro free safety. However, after taking over, next to Nick Scott and then Jordan Battle, it was clear that Hill wasn’t the answer.

Before the 2023 season, the Bengals moved Hill to corner, where he beat out DJ Turner for a starting spot and has been one of the few pleasant surprises the team’s defense has given its fans through the first five weeks of the season.

Now the Bengals enter a critical stretch of games to keep their playoff hopes alive, or at least on life support, and they’ll have to do it without Hill patrolling the secondary.
