The Bengals managed to snag defeat from the jaws of victory in a game that could’ve been a big hope for their playoff chances.
The Cincinnati Bengals would have felt much better about their playoff chances with a win against the Baltimore Ravens to get to 2-3. What ended up happening was that the Bengals failed to take advantage of multiple game-winning chances with an interception from Burrow and foolishly played for the field goal after the Ravens fumbled in overtime.
This was a winnable game for the Bengals, and while the Burrow interception came at a very inopportune time, the real failure of the Bengals’ loss to the Ravens was the cowardly play-calling following the Ravens’ fumble. Joe Burrow had been playing extremely well all day, but in the biggest moment in the entire game, the ball was taken out of his hands.
The team did just pay McPherson, who is a good kicker, but the odds of him making that kick were still lower than if Burrow had been given an opportunity to get the Bengals into closer field goal range.
Let’s see what Twitter thinks of Zac Taylor’s decision to take the ball out of the team’s best player’s hands during the most crucial drive of the game.
The Football Gods SMITED Zac Taylor for not allowing Joe Burrow to throw the ball on a day he has 5 TDs

Playing not to lose will get your ass beat ALL THE TIME!

Zac: Sick to my stomach for the guys in there
— Jay Morrison (@ByJayMorrison) October 6, 2024
that is so horrible from Zac Taylor
run three times to set up a 53 yarder
absolutely atrocious game management
— Josh Norris (@JoshNorris) October 6, 2024
Joe Burrow should take Zac Taylor back into the office after the game and fire him.

Seen a lot of Bengals games—both covering & spectating. I mean, a lot. This one ranks up there as one of the most “WTF” outcomes ever.
Aside from an atrocious defense, the team just isn’t getting the lucky bounces, timely calls and/or “creating their own luck”. Very few should…

The Bengals coaching problem is worse than their defensive roster problem.
— DarthNoobSaibot (@DarthNoobSaibot) October 6, 2024
Joe Burrow 30/39 392 yards 5 TD
And his head coach didn’t let him attempt to win the game.
— Blake Jewell (@BlakeJewellNFL) October 6, 2024
Joe Burrow threw 5 touchdowns, the Bengals scored 38 points…
And they lost.

That’s what playing scared gets you.

A 53 yard field goal…
With Joe Burrow at the helm who was (other than the one pick) UNSTOPPABLE.
Zac Taylor should answer for this @Bengals
— Kyle Smith (@Kyle_Smith1087) October 6, 2024
Joe had a 400 yard, 5 TD Performance
And they took the ball out of his hands in OT
They have done this several times before. The inability to learn from previous mistakes has this team drastically.
From not fixing the DL, Trying to run out the clock in OT… yikes #Bengals

Problem is this isn’t the first time that kind of decision making has cost the Bengals dearly and it’s going on 6 years.

Wasted a virtuoso performance on cowardice
— Nyck Grayson (@Nycholas__) October 6, 2024
Unbelievable cowardice from the head coach to settle for a 50+ yard field goal https://t.co/LBx9bMfnhl

I’m sick of playing for field goals when Joe Burrow is making $55 million a year
— Willie Lutz (@willie_lutz) October 6, 2024
Joe Burrow is playing MVP ball behind the best line of his career and Zac Taylor is shaking on the sidelines.
— Chris Roling (@Chris_Roling) October 6, 2024
Zac Taylor said there was a pass called when the Bengals got the ball back but Joe Burrow did a good job of checking out of it into a better option.
— Ben Baby (@Ben_Baby) October 6, 2024
Zac: People can write us off they if they want to. I’m not dumb enough to do that.
— Jay Morrison (@ByJayMorrison) October 6, 2024
Playing not to lose instead of playing to win is bad enough. But if you’re gonna lose, at least go down swinging with your best players! ♂️ https://t.co/v2plkRQDY7
