A look at how 2023 draft class fared against Cleveland
Let’s check in on the Las Vegas Raiders’ second-year players and see how the 2023 draft class fared in a 20-16 win over the Cleveland Browns and what to expect going into Week 5 on the road against the Denver Broncos.
Eight of the nine players from the draft class are currently on the roster. The Raiders cut third-round pick Byron Young and he was claimed by the Philadelphia Eagles. He was inactive in Week 1.
The highest-graded Raiders in Week 4 vs the Browns:
Tyree Wilson – 82.7
Christian Wilkins – 78.6
Isaiah Pola-Mao – 78.2
Harrison Bryant – 75.7
Jakobi Meyers – 73.3 pic.twitter.com/8X92qcJ7dL— PFF Las Vegas Raiders (@PFF_Raiders) September 30, 2024
Tyree Wilson:
The Raiders needed Wilson and he delivered. The team was without star pas-rusher Maxx Crosby for the first time ever. Wilson has five pressures and played well, taking advantage of a battered Browns’ offensive line. We all know the No. 7 overall pick has had his ups and downs, but this was an encouraging performance. The key is building upon it.
Michael Mayer:
The second-round pick from Notre Dame missed the game he was away for personal reasons according to the team. Mayer has had a quiet start to the season. He has four catches for 21 yards this season.
Tre Tucker:
The third-round pick produced big for the second straight game and the Raiders needed him, playing the Browns without star wide receiver Davante Adams. Tucker had five catches for 41 yards and played a career-high 85 percent of the snap. It came a week after he played 81 percent of the snaps.
Jakorian Bennett:
The fourth-round pick had another strong game. The starter played a season-high 95 percent of the snaps. He had another pass defensed. He has at least one in every game and has five on the season..
Aidan O’Connell:
O’Connell is the backup to Gardner Minshew. He did not play Sunday.
Chris Smith:
The fifth-round safety from Georgia played 20 snaps on special teams and none on defense against the Browns, which is his usual range.
Amari Burney:
Burney played 12 snaps on defense his first defensive action of the season. He also played 19 snaps on special teams. It will be interesting to see if his play on defense continues.
Nesta Jade Silvera.
Silvera played six snaps agaisnt the Browns. He played a career-high 26 snaps against the Panthers, a lot of it was in garbage time. Still, he may be a player who can get some more time on defense as the season progresses.
Conclusion:
Wilson gave a glimpse of what he can do and Tucker and Bennett continue to grow and contribute.
