Reinforcements coming?
The Cincinnati Bengals have a monster game against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. With the defensive line being ravaged by injury, it looks like Wednesday brought some good news.
Defensive end Trey Hendrickson (neck stinger) was at practice on a limited basis. Hendrickson being able to practice is a great sign for the Bengals this week, as he is undoubtedly the team’s best pass rusher.
Rookie defensive tackle McKinnley Jackson (knee) was designated to return from injured reserve and practiced for the first time since August 8th. While he was listed as a full participant, it’s unlikely that Jackson will see snaps on Sunday, as the team still has a 21-day window to fully activate him to the gameday roster.
Second-year defensive end Myles Murphy’s practice window was also opened, giving the team 21 days to determine when he can come back to the active roster. He was listed as a full participant, so the team will monitor his progress throughout the week. With the team in desperate need of pass rush outside of Hendrickson, he could play Sunday.
BJ Hill (hamstring) was also back at practice on Wednesday. As rookie Kris Jenkins continues to grow into his role, Hill being back in the lineup against the vaunted Ravens rushing attack could go a long way.
Sheldon Rankins was again out as he dealt with his own hamstring issue. Zac Taylor has maintained that Rankins’ recovery was a little behind Hill, so perhaps the latter returning to practice means the former will as well in the coming weeks.
Slot cornerback Mike Hilton (knee) was listed as out. It will be interesting to see if the injury keeps him sidelined throughout the week or if this was a de facto veteran’s rest day. Hilton did favor the knee in last Sunday’s win over the Carolina Panthers but returned to the game.
Guard Cordell Volson (ankle) showed up on the report but was a full participant, while linebacker Germaine Pratt was limited with his own ankle injury.
For the Ravens, everyone was able to practice Wednesday, though starting guard Andrew Vorhees was limited. Looks like every other starter is ready to rock. Must be nice.
