And the hits just keep on coming for the Rams’ struggling defense
The Los Angeles Rams have had their fair share of problems on defense this season and those issues reared their ugly head again in Sunday’s loss to the Bears. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams struggled throughout the first three games, yet in Chicago’s 24-18 win, the top overall pick managed to piece together a strong and efficient effort at LA’s expense.
According to NFL researcher Dante Koplowitz-Fleming, the 2022 Heisman winner has gotten off to a historic start at Soldier Field:
“Williams had the most efficient game of his career in Week 4 versus the Rams, posting his first career game with a 70-plus completion percentage and/or a 100-plus passer rating (73.9 percent and 106.6 rating, respectively).
The 2-2 Bears have won both of their games at Soldier Field this season, which marks a historic start to Williams’ career — he is the first rookie quarterback selected No. 1 overall in the common draft era to win his first two career home starts.”
Considering Williams had thrown two picks in back-to-back games, how the Rams fared against him was inexcusable. Entering the Week 4 matchup, the USC product had a 2-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio and completed 59.3% of his passes. That didn’t seem to matter against the Rams who allowed the prized rookie to get quite comfortable.
Well, maybe comfortable is not the right word as that implies that LA was unable to generate pressure on Williams in any way. Not true at all as the Rams sacked him 3 times and managed to register 6 QB hits against him. However, Williams stood tall in the pocket which helped him put together his efficient outing, despite the Bears’ porous O-line doing him few favors. Nothing new there by the way.
Caleb Williams had a 124.5 passer rating when under pressure in week 4.
The highest in the NFL among all quarterbacks.

This is a game the Rams must scrub from their memories in a hurry with Jordan Love and the Packers on deck. LA cannot afford a second straight NFC North signal caller carving up their secondary.
