We simulate the Bengals vs Panthers in Madden to try to predict the outcome of the week 4 game
The Cincinnati Bengals are in a precarious position against the Carolina Panthers. They need to start stringing together some wins if they want to have a playoff shot. The Panthers seemed like an easy win before the season, but the Bengals need to get their heads in the game to stay in the playoff race.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at how Madden predicts the week 4 game will go.
The Bengals start with the ball and waste no time getting some points on the board. The first drive ends with a touchdown pass to Mike Gesicki.
Bengals: 7 – 0
The Panthers receive following the touchdown, but thanks to a pressure and sack from Trey Hendrickson, along with some stout run defense, the Panthers are forced to punt. The Bengals drive down the field and quickly score again, this time on a pass to Charlie Jones.
Bengals: 14 – 0
Following the Bengals’ second touchdown, their defense is unable to get another stop, this time allowing Carolina to push down the field. Right after the end of the first quarter, the Panthers are able to score on third down on a touchdown pass to Tommy Tremble.
Bengals: 14 – 7
The Bengals continue their non-punting streak on the next drive, moving down the field quickly after a long catch to Tee Higgins. Then capping off the drive with another touchdown reception by Mike Gesicki to further their lead.
Bengals: 21 – 7
The Panthers defense is not slowing down the Bengals, so their offense will have to be scoring every drive to keep up. In this drive, after a sack on first down, the Panthers are unable to convert and are forced to take a field goal to close the lead.
Bengals: 21 – 10
The Bengals receive the ball following the field goal and don’t keep it long, immediately scoring on the first play of the drive on a throw to Ja’Marr Chase, where he breaks a tackle and outruns two defenders on the way to the end zone.
Bengals 28 – 10
The Panthers receive the ball and still have enough time to score, but they fail to take advantage and go three and out, leaving the Bengals enough time to score. The Bengals do take advantage and score on a run by Zack Moss with 30 seconds left in the half, five touchdowns in the first half.
Bengals: 35 – 10
The Panthers don’t just head into the locker room with 30 seconds left in the half. They drive to midfield and then take a Hail Mary shot, which they score on after it deflects off a Bengals defender’s hands into Diontae Johnson on the ground.
Bengals: 35 – 17
The Panthers receive the ball to open the half, looking to go for a two score flip around halftime. They quickly drive down the field and are able to complete the two scores, with Jonathan Mingo catching a touchdown pass to bring the game back within reach.
Bengals: 35 – 24
Following the Panthers touchdown, both sides made a series of defensive stops. The halftime adjustments seem to heavily favor the defenses in this game. With about five minutes left in the fourth, following several punts, the Panthers were driving down the field and looked poised to score. The Bengals were able to make a stand, however, and the Panthers settled for a field goal to bring it within a possession just after the two-minute warning.
Bengals: 35 – 27
The Bengals receive the ball, just needing a first down essentially to end the game. On third and 5, Zack Moss receives the handoff and is able to plow forward to get the first down, exhausting Carolinas last timeout and allowing the Bengals to run the clock out for the win.
Bengals: 35 – 27
It was a bad first half for the offense, but in this game, when they struggled, the defense stepped up, and that is what needs to happen for the Bengals going forward. The team needs a win against the Panthers. They can pull this one off against their former quarterback.
