Chase went off on the refs, which resulted in an in-game flag and an after-game fine.
The Cincinnati Bengals have not looked good through three weeks, but arguably their best game was their lone one on the road in which they dropped the ball against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Chase didn’t have an overly impactful game, as the Chiefs did their best to bring that safety help and limit what he could do.
But on one play, Chase was able to get open, catch the pass, and feel like a hip-drop tackle was used against him, which the NFL has made known will be a flag for this season and moving forward.
The penalty would’ve been on cornerback Trent McDuffie, but there was no flag. To say Chase was pissed off is putting it lightly. In an interview with ESPN’s Ryan Clark, Chase broke down his feelings towards the play.
“It was really just, you know, they come up with us every year and they hit us with new rules and stuff like that. I think this year was the hip-drop tackle. I feel like if we’re gonna have the opportunity to bring it to the players’ attention, and y’all gonna bring it to us in meetings and make sure we on top of it and make sure there’s safety for us,” Chase said. “I don’t know how they gonna treat it on from here and out, but if they’re gonna bring it to our attention they should, you know, say something about it. If not, then I feel like we shouldn’t mention it at all.”
Later in the week, Chase got hit with a minuscule fine for his comments towards the official, and he’s spoken a few times about what happened during that moment.
However, he does bring a new perspective on how these hip-drop tackles are being preached to players. At the end of the day, Chase wants the call made, or he doesn’t want to repeatedly hear about it.
I think anyone can appreciate that mindset.
