Week 5 of the 2024 college football season features a loaded slate of games, featuring some high profile ranked match ups. Here are the NFL Draft prospects to watch this weekend. All listed start times are Eastern.
Tre Harris, Wide Receiver, Ole Miss v. Kentucky (12 PM on ABC): The Rebels have been rolling this year behind their unbelievable offense. Tre Harris has been a key figure in Ole Miss’ passing game, catching 38 passes for 628 yards which is good for second in the country. The 6’3” fifth year receiver is simply too big and strong for most college DBs to hang with. Kentucky has a stingy defense that will be the first big test for Tre Harris and company. The senior receiver will need to step up so Mississippi can keep pushing towards a playoff spot.
Ollie Gordon II, Running Back, Oklahoma State v. Kansas State (12 PM on ESPN): A month ago, Ollie Gordon was projected to be a first round pick. Now the talented back isn’t even averaging four yards a carry for the Cowboys. After dropping a game last week, Gordon and the Pokes will need to step up to avoid losing two straight. Ollie Gordon is still supremely talented and this would be a great week to get his season back on track.
Benjamin Morrison, Cornerback, Notre Dame v. Louisville (3:30 PM on Peacock): Benjamin Morrison has continued his dominant career on the Notre Dame defense. His stats aren’t eye popping this year mostly because offenses aren’t testing him much. Louisville might be a different story. The Cardinals are loaded on offense with big play threats and they might go after every level of the field against the Irish defense. This will be a great challenge for the talented junior.
Malachi Starks, Safety, Georgia v. Alabama (7:30 on ABC): Alabama’s offense has been spectacular to start the season. Jalen Milton has taken another step as a passer and Ryan Williams might be the best freshman receiver Alabama has had since Amari Cooper. The Tide will push the ball downfield against Georgia, putting strain on Malachi Starks to hold it down on the backend of the Bulldogs secondary. Starks play in this game has playoff implications and could hugely impact his draft stock.
Xavier Scott, Cornerback, Illinois v. Penn State (7:30 PM on NBC): Illinois has put some quality defenders into the NFL over the last few drafts. This year’s standout may be Xavier Scott, who has three picks through four weeks of the season. The 5’11” corner has great speed and ball skills, which will come in handy against an explosive Penn State offense. This game has Big 10 stakes and will show the peaks of what Scott can do against a big armed quarterback and speedy receivers.
