Lions injury report: Sam LaPorta returns to full practice Friday

Lions injury report: Sam LaPorta returns to full practice Friday
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Lions got some good news on Friday, as Sam LaPorta and Dan Skipper were able to return to practice, while several others participation levels were upgraded.

The Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks are headed toward a Week 4 showdown on “Monday Night Football” but Detroit got some good news on Friday, as they were able to return two more offensive players to practice.

Let’s take a look at Friday’s injury report and get you up to date with what we know. Note that any changes from yesterday’s report will be bolded.

No practice

The Lions have already shut down Ragnow for the week, so his absence on Friday was expected. How quickly he recovers from his pectoral injury is still to be determined but the Lions are expected to give him the time he needs.

Melifonwu missed another practice bringing his total missed practices tally up to 10 in a row. It’s still very much unknown when he will recover, but the fact he has yet to be placed on injured reserve indicates it shouldn’t be far off… hopefully.

Limited practice

  • CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring)

Rakestraw missed around 10 days with a hamstring injury, so stacking practices is an encouraging sign he is progressing through his recovery.

Full practice

  • TE Sam LaPorta (ankle) — returned to practice on Friday
  • OT Dan Skipper (ribs) — returned to practice on Friday
  • DT Alim McNeill (shoulder) — upgraded to full practice
  • DL Levi Onwuzurike (knee) — upgraded to full practice
  • LB Alex Anzalone (concussion)
  • S Brian Branch (concussion) — upgraded to full practice

LaPorta and Skipper returned to a full practice on Friday, which is a terrific sign of their potential availability for Monday night. LaPorta tried to play through his injury last Sunday, while Skipper did, so that’s a solid indicator they may not be dealing with anything too significant.

McNeill told The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy he was planning on playing in this game and getting in a second practice, this one with full participation, seems to support the fact that he is certainly on the right track to do so.

Onwuzurike played through his injury last Sunday, so a second practice is a good sign he has not had any setbacks and should be in a good spot.

Anzalone continuing to get in full practices is a good sign he is near or has cleared the NFL’s concussion protocols.

Branch is still in the NFL’s concussion protocol, but his second practice being in full is an indicator that he is moving through the process and will have a chance to play on Monday. He still likely has some steps to clear, but he’s in a positive spot.

Seahawks’ Friday injury report

The Seahawks held a walkthrough on Friday, so these participation levels are only estimates from the coaching staff. Any changes from yesterday’s report will be bolded.

  • DT Byron Murphy (hamstring) — expected to miss some time
  • DE Leonard Williams (ribs)
  • EDGE Uchenna Nwosu (knee)
  • EDGE Boye Maye (knee)
  • LB Jerome Baker (hamstring)

Limited practice

  • RB Kenneth Walker (oblique)
  • TE Noah Fant (toe)
  • TE Pharaoh Brown (foot)
  • NT Jonathan Hankins (calf)
  • LB Tyrel Dodson (shoulder) — downgraded from full to estimated as limited

Full participation

  • RB Kenny McIntosh (hand)
  • WR Tyler Lockett (thigh)
  • WR DK Metcalf (hand)
  • WR Jake Bobo (knee)
  • TE Brady Russell (shoulder)
  • LG Laken Tomlinson (ankle) — upgraded from limited to full
  • RG Anthony Bradford (knee) — upgraded from DNP to full
  • EDGE Derick Hall (hip) — upgraded from limited to full
  • S K’Von Wallace (shoulder)
