Other Giant observations
Giants QB Daniel Jones needs to find a balance between ball security and splash plays | ESPN.com
Jones averaged 7.8 air yards per attempt as a rookie in coach Pat Shurmur’s offense. That is down to 6.7 air yards per attempt from 2020 until now. Even in his best season in 2022, Jones was at 6.0 air yards per attempt, 33rd out of 33 qualifying quarterbacks. He’s at 6.2 this season. The turnovers have certainly decreased (1.8 per game in his first two professional seasons to 0.9 per game since) as a result — but so have the splash plays.
“You don’t want to lose that gunslinger mentality,” Jones said. “I think you want to understand when those opportunities are there and when to take them. And you’re always kind of trying to balance that.”
Where Does Trevor Lawrence Rank Among NFL Starting QBs After Disastrous Start? | Bleacher Report
30. Daniel Jones, New York Giants: He’s rebounded a tad the last couple weeks, and Malik Nabers could very well save him, but a body of work with no more than 15 touchdown passes in a single season since he was a rookie in 2019 speaks for itself right now.

“It matters what you do with success,” said Jalin Hyatt. “I just think with him, he’s clearheaded, and he wants to be the best. He wants to be the best not just in here, but he wants to be the best receiver in the NFL. Day in and day out he shows that in practice, and it translates to the game. I think even with the success that he will continue to get in his career, I think it’ll help him, it’ll give him more motivation, more confidence in himself, and more confidence in DJ as well.”

The LSU product leads the NFL with 37 targets and a 38% target share. Ten years ago, another former Giants rookie receiver from LSU posted historic numbers. Nabers follows in the footsteps of Odell Beckham Jr., who had a tremendous rookie season with Big Blue and earned Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014.

“He works hard,” defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence said of his novice teammate. “I was happy for him to get his first one… He’s special, and I just want to see him keep growing.”
