Sunday afternoon reference material.
The fourth Sunday of the 2024 NFL regular season is approaching! Somehow we’re already nearly at the quarter mark.
Let’s run through a Philadelphia Eagles-focused rooting guide for all of the Week 4 games.
EAGLES GAME
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: The Eagles entering their Week 5 bye with a 3-1 record would be pretty solid. Much preferable to them losing, dropping to 2-2, and then having to wait 14 days until their next game. Go Birds.
NFC EAST
DALLAS COWBOYS at NEW YORK GIANTS: The Cowboys already beat the Giants on Thursday night. Would’ve been preferable to see the G-Men win since they’re the less threatening team. But, hey, it’s not like Dallas looked too threatening. The Cowboys also got some bad news with Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence now set to miss multiple weeks due to injury.
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS at ARIZONA CARDINALS: The Commanders are currently first in the division standings. They might be the Eagles’ biggest threat to the NFC East crown this season. It’d be nice to see Jonathan Gannon come through his former team here. Root for the Cardinals.
DRAFT PICK WATCH
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS at DETROIT LIONS: The Eagles own the Lions’ fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Seahawks have the better record but they’re arguably less likely to get the No. 1 seed. Detroit is the bigger threat. Root for the Seahawks.
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS at HOUSTON TEXANS: The Eagles own the Texans’ fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Also would be nice to see Doug Pederson finally get on the board this season with a win. Root for the Jaguars.
PITTSBURGH STEELERS at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: The Eagles want to see a non-Texans team win the AFC South. Root for the Colts.
TENNESSEE TITANS at MIAMI DOLPHINS: The Eagles want to see a non-Texans team win the AFC South. Root for the Titans.
DENVER BRONCOS at NEW YORK JETS: If the Texans don’t win their division, they could still have a shot at a wild card spot in the AFC playoff picture. The Jets are a bigger threat to the Texans making the postseason. Root for the Jets.
NFC PLAYOFF PICTURE
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS at ATLANTA FALCONS: The Falcons have a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Eagles. The Eagles have a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Saints. A New Orleans win also serves to improve Philly’s strength of victory tiebreaker. Root for the Saints.
CINCINNATI BENGALS at CAROLINA PANTHERS: The Panthers might be a much more functional team with Andy Dalton under center instead of Bryce Young. Don’t want to see them get too hot and gain confidence. Root for the Bengals.
LOS ANGELES RAMS at CHICAGO BEARS: The team with Matthew Stafford is the bigger threat than the team with rookie Caleb Williams. Root for da Bears.
MINNESOTA VIKINGS at GREEN BAY PACKERS: One could make arguments for either side here. The Vikings seem less threatening because it’s hard to totally buy into Sam Darnold keeping this success up. But what if they are just really good and they keep winning? The Eagles will want them to start losing at some point. Plus, the Eagles do have the head-to-head tiebreaker over Green Bay, which makes the Packers a little less threatening. But the Packers could also be pretty formidable if Love gets hot. Probably best to hope the Packers lose here with the hope that the Vikings will cool off at some point. Root for the Vikings.
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS at SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS: The Niners losing at home to the Pats to drop to 1-3 would be pretty delicious. Root for the Patriots.
WHAT’S LEFT
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS at LOS ANGELES CHARGERS: Best to root for the scenario that keeps Patrick Mahomes away from the most favorable path back to the Super Bowl. Root for the Chargers.
CLEVELAND BROWNS at LAS VEGAS RAIDERS: The Eagles play the Browns in Week 6. Assuming the Eagles can beat them, they can boost their strength of victory tiebreaker with Cleveland being as good as possible. Root for the Browns.
BUFFALO BILLS at BALTIMORE RAVENS: The Eagles play the Ravens in Week 13. Assuming the Eagles can beat them, they can boost their strength of victory tiebreaker with Baltimore being as good as possible. Root for the Ravens.
