Rams Hall of Famer Kurt Warner on why the Greatest Show on Turf was the greatest
Kurt Warner appeared on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday and proclaimed, to the surprise of few, that the St. Louis Rams Greatest Show on Turf offense from 1999 to 2001 was and is the greatest offense that the NFL has ever seen.
“I would always argue that our offense was the greatest offense that the league has ever seen. We’re on there (a list) three times. You could argue that Tom Brady had the greatest season, but to do it for three straight years the way that we did, I don’t know if there’s ever been an offense that good. We had Hall of Famers and a system that fits what all of us do. That’s what we’re speaking to, the idea of getting a system that fits your players.”

The Rams ranked first in points and yards in 1999, in 2000, and in 2001. The team went 37-11 in those three seasons, reaching two Super Bowls and winning one. Hall of Famers on the Super Bowl winning team offense include Warner, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, and Orlando Pace, while Torry Holt continues to wait.
There are few contenders for greatest offense of all-time besides the Greatest Show on Turf. There are teams that dominated for a season, as Warner said, but the NFL had three years to figure out how to stop the Rams and they couldn’t do it until injuries and age finally started to take a toll on the team’s most elite players.
I would have to agree with Kurt Warner. That’s why they call it “Greatest”.
