Linebacker Alex Singleton played three quarters on Sunday after tearing his ACL, but will now miss the rest of the 2024 season.
It’s only been three weeks of the 2024 NFL season, but former Eagles around the league are suffering season-ending injuries and are on the move to new cities.
Linebacker Alex Singleton has been a workhorse for the Broncos defense since going to Denver, and on Sunday, he tore his ACL in the first quarter and yet still managed to play 49 more snaps and finish the game. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean he’ll be able to continue playing through the injury, and will miss the rest of the season on IR. The Broncos signed another former Eagles linebacker — Zach Cunningham — to replace Singleton.
Similarly, safety Marcus Epps of the Las Vegas Raiders tore his ACL on Sunday against the Panthers and will spend the rest of 2024 on IR. The good news for Epps is that there wasn’t additional damage from the injury, so he should be good to go next year. The bad news is that he’s set to be a free agent this spring, and the injury could affect his next contract.
For the San Francisco 49ers, defensive lineman Javon Hargrave suffered a partially torn tricep that will require surgery, and end his 2024 season early. It was a big blow for the 49ers defense, and head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed as much.
“It’s a big one,” Shanahan said, according to Yahoo! Sports. “I thought he had his best game yesterday. I thought he was a huge factor, really affected the quarterback in that game. It’s a big loss. He’s one of our better players. He was definitely going in the right direction and was going to have a big year.”
These guys join an already pretty long list of Philly alumni on IR this season, including Ryan Bates (Bears), River Cracraft (Dolphins), Nate Herbig (Steelers), Cameron Johnston (Steelers), Marcus Mariota (Commanders), and Sua Opeta (Buccaneers).
In addition to roster moves due to injuries, former Eagles WR Jalen Reagor signed with the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad after being cut by the Patriots for throwing shade on IG. Additionally, DB Jalen Mills ended up signing with the New York Jets after being cut by the Giants a few weeks ago, and WR/TE Jordan Matthews was released by the Carolina Panthers, but will likely bounce on and off their practice squad as needed.
