Bills at Ravens: 6 storylines to watch for in Week 4

Nick Wojton

The Buffalo Bills will turn to the next page of their 2024 NFL regular season.

Following a 47-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3, the Bills (3-0) will visit the Baltimore Ravens (1-2) at M&T Bank Stadium in their upcoming matchup.

But before we even get to kickoff, there will be a lot of Bills-related discussions and conversations to be had throughout the coming days.

With that, here are six storylines to watch for during the lead up to Bills against the Ravens:

More prime-time football

The Bills are going to be on prime-time once again… this time away from home… but still prime time. Buffalo will be in Baltimore for “Sunday Night Football.” That comes after their last two outings were on Thursday and Monday.

It still just seems like yesterday that the Bills never got a sniff of a single prime-time game… let alone three straight.

Josh vs. Lamar

As always is the case when the Bills and Ravens clash, the quarterbacks take the spotlight. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson were the two QBs from their 2018 NFL draft class that were the most overlooked. Now they’re looking like the top two.

Jackson is 1-2 against the Bills in his career, including the playoffs. However, Jackson has MVP credentials on his resume over Allen.

Ravens expectations

Because of plenty of good reason, the Ravens had Super Bowl expectations heading into this year. While Baltimore is fresh off their first win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3, they started 2024 on a poor note: Losing two-straight.

That’s going to be a storyline still weighing heavy. Because of those losses, this game is massive for both sides. It’s only Week 4, but the AFC playoff picture will loom large here.

In addition, are the Ravens going to still play as a desperate team? Will the Bills be ready for that?

Derrick Henry addition

Of all the reasons the Ravens had Super Bowl expectations, despite a strong defense and MVP quarterback on their roster… Derrick Henry was perhaps the largest reason why. One of the best running backs in NFL history, adding Henry to a team with Jackson? That seemed terrifying.

While it hasn’t been perfect through three outings, the Bills are going to be asked about having to contain both of these superstars at the same time.

Injury progress

It appears the injury situation will continue to loom for the Bills throughout this upcoming week. Ahead of facing the Ravens, the two names most watched on the injury reports will be linebacker Terrel Bernard (pectoral) and cornerback Taron Johnson (forearm).

It’s expected Bernard still misses and Baylon Spector starts again. Johnson could be closer to being back in the fold. We’ll see.

MVP favorite

(USAT)

After Week 3, Allen is this season’s MVP favorite. You can bet he’s going to be asked about that this upcoming week. Allen was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts against the Jaguars.
