The Detroit Lions radio call of the hilarious David Montgomery run vs. the Cardinals is absolutely worth your watch. See it here.
For a second, I thought we had seen the end of the “Calls of the Game” feature the Detroit Lions would drop after every victory. However, the series made its triumphant return this week after Detroit’s big 20-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals, and it’s a great one.
There were so many great moments from the game that had me eager to see the reactions of play-by-play radio announcer Dan Miller and color commentator Lomas Brown. In this edition, we also get a close look at former Lions guard T.J. Lang, and that turns out to be blessing, in particular, when a certain play happens.
The play I’m referring to is when David Montgomery got picked up by the offensive line and carried an additional 6-7 yards on a run. Just look at the smiles of Lang and Brown—two former offensive linemen—after the play.
Of course, there’s so much more in this video, including the booth’s reaction to Detroit’s ridiculous hook-and-ladder touchdown.
Even without the entertaining plays, these videos are always worth it due to Miller’s incredible charisma and energy in the booth. Enjoy:
- The Lions are dominating in the trenches in pretty much every phase of the game, per PFF:

- Checking in on a former Lion: safety Tracy Walker was released from the 49ers’ practice squad this week.
- Pretty neat look at the coverage concepts used by each team. The Lions use cover-1 more than all but three teams, which makes sense considering how often they play Brian Branch down in the box:

- Linebacker Jack Campbell has a lofty goal for 2024: be the best defense in the NFL. He explains what that means here.
- Jack Fox, pretty dang good field optimization specialist:
Among all @NFL punters this season, @Lions P @MrJackFox ranks:
– 1st in % of punts pinned I-10 (36.4%)
– 1st in return yards allowed (0)
– t-1st in punts returned (1)
– t-1st in punts pinned I-10 (4)
– 2nd in % of punts pinned I-20 (72.7%)
