A look at how Las Vegas’ rookie class fared in loss to Carolina
Let’s look at how the Las Vegas Raiders’ rookie class fared in a 36-22 Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers and what it means heading into a Week 4 home game against the Cleveland Browns. Kickoff is at 1:25 p.m. PT.
Brock Bowers:
The first-round pick didn’t make quite the splash in Week 3 as he did in his first two NFL games. Bowers had three catches for 41 yards against the Panthers having leading all NFL tight ends with 15 catches for 156 receiving yards after two games. He was on the field for 66 percent of the offensive snaps. While it wasn’t an eye-popping game, the Georgia product is clearly already a mainstay in this offense and he will have a big role against Cleveland.
Jackson Powers-Johnson:
The second-round pick from Oregon was active for the first game after he was dealing with health issues. The Oregon product played 21 snaps at right guard for a banged-up Dylan Parham. Powers-Johnson will likely get a chance to push Cody Whitehair at left guard soon.
Decamarion Richardson:
The fourth-round pick was out with a hamstring injury for the third straight week. The team hopes the cornerback can return soon.
Tommy Eichenberg:
The fifth-round pick played on defense for the first time as he logged five snaps. The linebacker from Ohio State played 20 special teams plays. He only played on special teams in his debut in Week 2.
Dylan Laube:
He is starting out as a fourth-string running back. The sixth-round pick was a healthy scratch for the third straight game. He must beat out veteran Ameer Abdullah to on the field unless there are injuries.
Not on roster
Seventh-round pick, safety Trey Taylor is on the injured reserve, for, at least, four games, and seventh-round pick, cornerback M.J. Devonshire was cut and is on the practice squad.
Undrafted free agents:
Linebacker Amari Gainer, wide receiver Ramel Keyton, safety Thomas Harper, defensive tackle Jonah Laulu. Gainer played 10 snaps at linebacker, his first defensive action. He played on 73 percent of the special teams snaps, his most of the season. So, Gainer’s role is increasing. Laulu played 11 defensive snaps after playing two the week before. he also played on seven special teams snaps. So, this is also a player who is getting more playing time. Harper was active for the first team, playing 11 special teams snaps. Keyton was inactive for the third straight week.
