An well-deserved honor
Jonathan Greenard got an opportunity to face his former team on Sunday afternoon when the Minnesota Vikings played host to the Houston Texans. Greenard was a big reason that the game turned into a blowout, and today he was recognized for his performance.
Greenard has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3 of this season. It is the first time he’s received a Defensive Player of the Week honor in his career.
Greenard finished his game on Sunday with three quarterback sacks and was a huge part of the reason that Texans’ offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil had so many issues on Sunday. Tunsil was credited with five penalties on Sunday, along with at least one that the Vikings declined, and he had Greenard in his face for a good portion of the game.
For winning this week’s award, the NFL Foundation will award a grant of $5,000 through USA Football to a youth or high school football program of Greenard’s choice.
Greenard is now the tenth player to win a weekly award during Kevin O’Connell’s tenure as the team’s head coach, and the fifth defensive player to do so.
Congratulations to Jonathan Greenard on being named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 3!
