The Bengals’ embarrassing Monday night loss is etched in history.
The Cincinnati Bengals and Washington Commanders had a historic night, but unfortunately, it was mostly because the Commanders played so well.
The most notable was Washington’s quarterback Jayden Daniels was the first rookie ever to complete over 90% of his passes (21 of 23). He tossed two touchdowns but also ran for 40 yards and an additional touchdown.
The Bengals defense didn’t even have a pass breakup; his only misses were overthrows on deep passes. The rookie didn’t have to deal with much pressure either, as Trey Hendrickson was the only defender to really get in his face.
Cincinnati’s defense also never forced a punt or turnover on the night. This is noteworthy as the Bengals offense also didn’t punt or turn the ball over. This is the first time in the Super Bowl era that neither offense punted or turned the ball over. The Bengals are the first team to lose when their offense does that as well.
According to CBS, it was the first game since at least 1940 to feature zero punts and zero turnovers, which makes it the only game over the past 84 years that’s happened.
Oh, and the Commanders scored the most points they’ve had in a game since 2016.
We’d all prefer to forget Monday night, but it looks like it will be remembered for quite some time. This defense had a great first two weeks, but they played as poorly as possible this week when the offense finally got rolling.
The team now sits at 0-3, and no team has ever started 0-3 and won a Super Bowl. Maybe this team could make history again?
