No respect, I tell ya.
You would think that consecutive victories over teams who are on the short list to represent their respective conferences in the Super Bowl would earn the Minnesota Vikings a little bit of respect from the folks who make betting lines.
You would think that. And, in this case, you would be wrong.
To start Week 4 in the National Football League, the Minnesota Vikings have opened up as a 2.5-point underdog to the Green Bay Packers in this season’s first installment of the Border Battle. The over/under for this one is currently sitting at 43.5 points.
The Vikings are coming off of a blowout victory over the Houston Texans in Week 3, winning by a score of 34-7 this past Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium. Not to be outdone, the Packers have rallied behind backup quarterback Malik Willis, who has taken over for an injured Jordan Love and led Green Bay to a pair of wins over two other AFC South teams in Indianapolis and Tennessee. As of now, we still don’t know who the Packers will start at quarterback this Sunday in Green Bay.
So far this season, in 180 minutes of football, the Vikings have trailed for exactly three minutes and 26 seconds, and that came in the first quarter of the opener against the New York Giants when New York got out to a 3-0 lead. They led wire-to-wire against both San Francisco and Houston and are allowing just ten points per game so far through the first three weeks.
With the Vikings rolling and Sam Darnold being given a clean bill of health earlier on Monday, it’s a bit of a surprise that the Vikings are an underdog in this one, but that’s where they start the week.
