Justin Jefferson and Jalen Nailor Make Vikings History

And it’s a pretty surprising fact

The Minnesota Vikings have been on a roll the first few weeks of this 2024 NFL season, but a pair of the team’s wide receivers have accomplished something that no other receiving duo it team history has done.

Justin Jefferson and Jalen Nailor each have a touchdown in all of the Vikings’ first three games this season. That makes them the first duo in team history to have a touchdown catch in each of the team’s first three games. They’re the first pair to do it in the NFL since 2018 when Mike Evans and Chris Godwin accomplished the feat for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This means that Jefferson and Nailor have done something that Cris Carter and Randy Moss never did. Or Carter and Jake Reed. Or Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen, or any of the other great wide receiver pairs that the team has had over the years.

Jefferson is Jefferson, and we’ve used just about all the superlatives possible to describe him and what he means to this offense. Nailor has taken full advantage of the opportunities he’s been afforded by Jordan Addison’s absence from most of the first three games of the year. He’s only had seven receptions this season, but three of them have found the end zone and he’s averaging over fifteen yards per reception. He’s getting some valuable time in the offense and carving out a role for himself that it seems he’ll be able to keep even after Addison finally returns from his ankle issue.

With Nailor getting himself established and Addison and T.J. Hockenson waiting in the wings, the Minnesota offense could just be scratching the surface of what they’re capable of in what’s quickly turning into a renaissance year for Sam Darnold. The Vikings have a lot of weapons for opposing defenses to worry about.

We’ll see if Jefferson and Nailor can keep their streak going for a fourth consecutive week when the Vikings roll into Green Bay on Sunday.
