Giants won’t change kickers on short week
The New York Giants will not make a change at placekicker this week after new kicker Greg Joseph badly missed a 48-yard field-goal attempt that would have given the Giants a nine-point lead over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Joseph, a seven-year NFL veteran, was signed off the Detroit Lions’ practice squad last week to replace Graham Gano, who was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
“It’s going to be Greg,” head coach Brian Daboll said on Tuesday, one day after being non-committal about his kicker for Thursday.
Last week, the Giants worked out four placekickers. They did not sign any of them, opting instead to bring in Joseph.
The 30-year-old Joseph has kicked for the Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Minnesota Vikings. He spent the last three seasons with Minnesota.
Joseph has made 62 of 63 field goal attempts (96.9%) inside 40 yards in his career. He has, though, made only 22 of 31 (70.9%) between 40 and 49 yards and 16 of 28 (57.1%) from 50 yards or more.
Joseph did convert on all three of his extra-point attempts vs. the Browns.
The Giants have to pay Joseph for at least two more games since they signed him off Detroit’s practice squad.
