The Detroit Lions have made a slew of roster moves, including putting two players on IR.

On Tuesday, the Detroit Lions made a handful of roster moves, mostly transactions that were expected.

First, the Lions placed both linebacker Derrick Barnes and defensive end Marcus Davenport on injured reserve. Davenport’s season is expected to be done, after suffering a reported tricep tear. It is unclear how much time Barnes, who suffered a knee injury against the Cardinals, will miss.

“We’re still getting second opinions on that,” coach Dan Campbell said on Monday. “What we know right now is he’s going to be down a little while. We know that, and then it’s just a matter of these opinions keep coming back, how long is that going to be? It’s the knee, so is he going to need something done other than one of the ligaments? Can it scar in? Can these ligaments scar in and everything will be good, it just needs time? We know he’s going to need to be down for a little while while the knee heals, and then once it heals, is it going to need surgery?”

He will have to miss a minimum of four games now that he’s on injured reserve.

To fill one of the now-vacant spots, the Lions have signed wide receiver Tim Patrick from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The Lions have already utilized two of Patrick’s three gameday call-ups, so it’s no surprise that he would eventually find his way onto the 53-man roster.

“He fits us just the way he is, the way he works, his attention to detail, and he brings a little something different to us,” Campbell said of Patrick last week. “He’s a big guy. He’s a big target, he’s physical, he’s tough, so I’m glad he’s here.”

Finally, to fill up Patrick’s spot on the practice squad, the Lions have re-signed Morice Norris. He spent training camp with the Lions and was an early standout for his athleticism and ability to play both corner and safety. However, he suffered an injury in the offseason and was eventually waived with an injury settlement. Now he’ll return to continue his development, and could even help Detroit out soon, with their safety room currently missing Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) and Brian Branch (concussion).

The Lions have one roster spot open.
