The talented rookie leaves the field
The New York Giants rookie cornerback Dru Phillips left the field during Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns with a first-quarter calf injury.
Phillips, a 2024 third-round pick, has been a very bright spot for the Giants’ defense. The Giants’ secondary has been a question mark throughout the season, but Phillips play has been exceptional. He’s made a mark as a slot defender with his processing and aggression coming downhill.
2022 third round pick Cor’Dale Flott replaced Phillips in the slot, with Adoree’ Jackson moving in at the outside cornerback spot.
Second-year center John Michael Schmitz briefly left the field prior to the Giants’ second drive to be evaluated in the blue medical tent. He quickly returned to the field in time for the first play of the drive, though veteran guard Greg Van Roten was spotted practicing delivering snaps to Daniel Jones, giving us a glimpse of the Giants’ depth chart in action.
