Sunday afternoon reference material.
The third Sunday of the 2024 NFL regular season is here!
Let’s run through a Philadelphia Eagles-focused rooting guide for all of the Week 3 games.
EAGLES GAME
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES at NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: If the Eagles lose today, they’ll be 1-2 entering a Week 4 road game against Tampa. Would not be ideal. Go Birds.
NFC EAST
NEW YORK GIANTS at CLEVELAND BROWNS: Too early to get cute by rooting for the Giants to win games to ruin their draft positioning. Best to see them lose some more games to snuff any hope of competing. Root for the Browns.
BALTIMORE RAVENS at DALLAS COWBOYS: The Eagles would love to see the Cowboys drop to 1-2 ahead of Dallas playing two straight road games. Root for the Ravens.
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS at CINCINNATI BENGALS: The Commanders are currently first in the NFC East. The Eagles will want to see them lose. Root for the Bengals.
DRAFT PICK WATCH
DETROIT LIONS at ARIZONA CARDINALS: The Eagles own the Lions’ fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Also, the Lions figure to be the bigger threat in the NFC. Pinch your nose and pull for Jonathan Gannon. Root for the Cardinals.
NFC PLAYOFF PICTURE
CHICAGO BEARS at INDIANAPOLIS COLTS: The Eagles want to see a non-Texans team win the AFC South since Philly owns Houston’s 2025 fifth-round pick. Also, AFC team over NFC team here. Root for the Colts.
HOUSTON TEXANS at MINNESOTA VIKINGS: You can make cases for both sides here. The Eagles own the Texans’ 2025 fifth-round pick, so, it’d be nice to see them lose. And it wouldn’t be so bad if the Vikings won the NFC North if the alternatives are seemingly more legitimate threats like Green Bay or Detroit. But the Vikings being for real would also mean more competition for the Eagles when it comes to playoff spots/seeding. Root for the Texans.
DENVER BRONCOS at TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS: The Eagles play the Bucs in Week 4. Would be nice to see Tampa look more mortal ahead of that matchup. Also easy to root for the AFC team over the NFC team. Root for the Broncos.
GREEN BAY PACKERS at TENNESSEE TITANS: The Eagles want to see a non-Texans team win the AFC South. Also, the Packers could be a threat in the NFC playoff picture. Root for the Titans.
MIAMI DOLPHINS at SEATTLE SEAHAWKS: AFC team over NFC team. Root for the Dolphins.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS at LOS ANGELES RAMS: The 49ers pose the bigger threat to the Eagles’ hopes of getting a top seed. Also, it’s just more fun to watch the Whiners lose. Root for the Rams.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS at ATLANTA FALCONS: The Falcons have a head-to-head tiebreaker over the Eagles (smh), so, best to see them not being a factor in the playoff picture. Root for the Chiefs.
WHAT’S LEFT
LOS ANGELES CHARGERS at PITTSBURGH STEELERS: Getting a bit in the weeds here but the Steelers being as good as possible gives the Eagles an opportunity to improve their strength of victory tiebreaker if Philly can beat Pittsburgh later this season. Root for the Steelers.
CAROLINA PANTHERS at LAS VEGAS RAIDERS: The Eagles don’t want to see the Panthers looking a lot more competent with Andy Dalton than Bryce Young. But a Panthers win potentially benefits the Eagles from the strength of victory tiebreaker consideration since Philly plays Carolina later this season. Root for the Panthers.
JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS at BUFFALO BILLS: The Eagles want to see a non-Texans team win the AFC South. Also, another potential strength of victory tiebreaker booster consideration here. Root for the Jaguars.
