Among the reasons the retooled AFC East champs should be encouraged? How about OLB Von Miller collecting nine pressures, including a pair of sacks, after two weeks. He had five pressures and zero sacks in 12 games all of last season, when he was on the mend following ACL reconstruction.

This is a different Bills offense—rather than Allen throwing the ball all over the place, it was running back James Cook who had a huge game, tying a franchise record with three first-half touchdowns. But Buffalo’s defense stymied the Dolphins, and as we saw in Week 1, Allen is more than capable of big games when the Bills need them. The Bills sent a message in Week 2 that they remain the class of the AFC East.

If there has been an unsung element of the team’s 2-0 start, it’s probably the offensive line. I feel like the defense got the proper credit for how it played from about the fourth series of Week 1 all the way through Thursday’s statement victory in Miami. But the O-line deserves its flowers, too, as it kept Josh Allen (and his banged-up left hand) clean and opened a few freeways in the run game. Watching the recently paid Spencer Brown stonewall Miami’s Jaelan Phillips in space while Allen hit a 33-yard pass to the 1-yard line was impressive. Through two weeks, almost every team has shown a little sign of weakness. The Bills remain as dangerous as they have been until something dramatically changes.

Winning at Miami the way they did was impressive. The defense came up big in that game, while the offense with James Cook continued to run the football.

Of all the teams in the NFL, it’s arguable that when we factor in competition nobody has looked better than the Bills. Struggling against the Cardinals for a half in Week 1 looks better after what we saw from Arizona in Week 2. Everyone gave up on Buffalo too fast.

Week 1 was the Josh Allen Show — four touchdowns and 279 combined passing and rushing yards. In Week 2, Allen contributed just 141 combined yards and one touchdown, and the Bills still won going away. The defense held the Dolphins to 4.7 yards per play and forced three turnovers. If Buffalo is more than just the Josh Allen Show, it might be a real contender.

The Buffalo Bills looked dominant in Week 2 as they continued their success over the Miami Dolphins. Buffalo has now won 13 of the last 14 games, and it did so with their defense on Thursday Night Football. If Buffalo’s defense continues to improve, there is no reason why they shouldn’t win the AFC East again this year. The schedule is tough, but Buffalo is a proven juggernaut with Josh Allen under center.

The Bills have come out asserting their will on teams — not just with the talent of Josh Allen but with their defense and running game, too. Between Joe Brady and Sean McDermott, Buffalo has a more comfortable, consistent physical identity that can produce a different kind of great results.

This could go to a variety of players with the Bills’ defense off to such an injured start. Lewis is one player on this roster who is asked to step up in so many ways, currently as the starting nickel while Taron Johnson deals with a forearm injury. The former undrafted free agent out of the University at Buffalo is also a backup at safety and a special teams player. He tied for the team high in tackles (10) against the Dolphins and continuing to play well while Johnson misses time will be important.
