Hunt is back on the Chiefs’ radar after an injury to starting running back Isiah Pacheco.

As ESPN’s Adam Schefter explains, former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt is expected to visit with the club on Tuesday. With Pacheco now expected to miss six to eight weeks, the Chiefs have a glaring need for their starting running back position.
Hunt, 29, was drafted by Kansas City in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He won the rushing title in his rookie year before the team’s relationship soured with him during the 2018 season. In 27 games with the Chiefs, Hunt collected 2,984 scrimmage yards and 25 total touchdowns.
In February leading up to that season, Hunt was involved in an altercation with a woman, and when TMZ posted a video of the incident, the team determined that he had not been honest with the coaching staff about the incident and opted to release him. The Cleveland Browns eventually signed Hunt, who was suspended for the first eight games of the 2019 season.
Hunt worked in a committee with Browns star running back Nick Chubb, but his best production came in 2020 when Chubb missed a month due to injury. It was the only season in which Hunt managed to get over 1,000 scrimmage yards since being released by the Chiefs.
In another roster move Monday, the Chiefs waived tight end Peyton Hendershot. Between Hollywood Brown on Reserve/Injured, Pacheco headed there and the waiving of Hendershot, Kansas City has three open spots on its 53-man roster.
