And Vikings fans breathe a collective sigh of relief
When Minnesota Vikings’ star wide receiver Justin Jefferson was prone on the turf after a running play early in the fourth quarter of the Vikings’ victory over the San Francisco 49ers, a lot of folks had to hold their breath.
Fortunately, we can all exhale now.
After the game, Jefferson said that he doesn’t expect to miss any games after suffering what is being called a quad contusion after he took a knee to the thigh from Niners’ linebacker Fred Warner early in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.
“I’m not seriously injured,” Jefferson said. “So that’s the main important thing. So it’s just all about getting to the training room, making sure my body is right for next week, and I’ll be ready to go next Sunday.”
Jefferson had put together yet another 100-yard performance before his injury, largely fueled by the second-longest pass play in franchise history, a 97-yard connection between himself and Sam Darnold in the second quarter. He would up with 133 yards on four receptions, tying him with Lance Alworth for the fewest number of games needed to reach 6,000 career receiving yards. His four receptions also gave him 400 for his career, making him the third-fastest in league history to that mark.
With Jordan Addison already dealing with injury issues this season and T.J. Hockenson not able to come back for at least two more games, the Vikings can hardly afford to lose Jefferson for any length of time at this point. Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like that’s anything the team needs to worry about at the present time.
