Here’s everything you need to know about the Eagles’ 2024 Week 2 home opener.
The Philadelphia Eagles will finally get their home opener in Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season on Monday night against the Atlanta Falcons. There will be some familiar faces in attendance with the team celebrating Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles’ retirement during the game, as well.
Coming off the NFL’s first game in Brazil, the Eagles had a little bit of a longer break before this second-week matchup, but will certainly have some adversity to overcome with news that A.J. Brown will miss the game due to a hamstring injury. The WR had some tightness at practice a few days ago, and following Sunday’s walkthrough, he was officially downgraded to out.
Head coach Nick Sirianni said that should anyone be asked to step into Brown’s role, he was confident that they had the players to do that — naming Jahan Dotson, Johnny Wilson, and Britain Covey. Wilson is dealing with his own hamstring injury, so the team may opt to elevate Parris Campbell from the practice squad this week.
Without question Brown’s presence completely changes the offense, but this is still a group that includes Jalen Hurts, DeVonta Smith, Saquon Barkley, and Dallas Goedert. If they aren’t able to get something going without Brown — against the Falcons — then there are much bigger problems to worry about.
The Eagles defense had a fine performance against the Packers in Week 1, with a few bright spots — Quinyon Mitchell excelling, Reed Blankenship pulling in an interception — but Sirianni and DC Vic Fangio talked several times this week about needing to tackle better. They didn’t place blame on field conditions, but rather acknowledged that the players needed to be less wild in their approach.
There were plenty of things to clean up in the Eagles season opener, but there was also enough to be encouraged by as we head into another long season.
Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the game.

They last faced off back in 2021, with Jalen Hurts and the Eagles winning by a huge 32-6 on the road in Atlanta. Philly also leads the postseason series between the Falcons, 3-1, having last played each other in the NFC divisional round in 2018 — on their way to the Super Bowl victory two games later.
