The Miami Dolphins head out for a road trip in Week 3 to face the Seattle Seahawks. The odds are not in their favor.
The Miami Dolphins hit the road for the first time in 2024 as they head across the country to face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. Sitting with a 1-1 record on the season following the team’s Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Miami could be facing a rough time in Seattle, and the oddsmakers seem to know it.
Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa sustained a concussion in the second half against the Bills last Thursday. The history of concussions for the 2020 fifth-overall draft pick is concerning and could lead to an extended period away from the field as he waits for his brain to fully recover. In his place, third-year quarterback Skylar Thompson appears set to start. As a rookie, Thompson appeared in seven games, starting twice, during the regular season in 2022, then started the team’s playoff game – a wildcard round loss to the Bills. He did not make any appearances last year.
The Dolphins are expected to add a quarterback this week to provide depth, but the preparation time may not have a newcomer – even if they were to sign a veteran player – ready for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.
Miami was favored to win in Weeks 1 and 2, beating the Jacksonville Jaguars before the loss to the Bills, but Tagovailoa’s injury and the long road trip have the Dolphins facing long odds this week. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Miami opens a 6.5-point underdog to the Seahawks.
The Dolphins are +220 on the moneyline for a straight-up win, while the Seahawks are -270. The point total is set at 41.5.
Miami’s opening as an almost touchdown underdog, with all the uncertainty surrounding the team, including not knowing what they really have in Thompson as the team’s starting quarterback, seems fairly accurate. Will the Dolphins be able to overcome those odds? Will the line move at all this week? Who will Miami add as the quarterback, and how could he impact this game?
A lot of questions need to be answered, but for now, the oddsmakers are not liking the Dolphins’ chances this weekend.
