The Bengals looked much improved in Week 2, but they still need to clean up some mistakes and stack some wins.
For the third year in a row and the fifth time under Zac Taylor, the Cincinnati Bengals start the season off with two losses.
While the mood was deflated after the Bengals lost in Week 1 to the New England Patriots, the team looked much improved against the Kansas City Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champs.
The team seemed determined to get the new players involved, with Gesicki, Burton and All making plays consistently throughout the game. Players other than Chase will have to step up all season to keep the Bengals offense humming and this game was a great sign.
Bengals offense got a solid start with a field goal followed by a touchdown to second year player Iosivas with an incredible toe tap catch.
Yes he did. Chase Brown needs more touches. He’s like a rocket. https://t.co/TLxkb6SDr1

Iosivas TD! Bengals capitalize on the Mahomes mistake and Yoshi drags the toes on a great ball to the pylon.
Need him to make those plays!

That Iosivas toe-drag was as good as any you’ll see from a WR.
Great play by the second-year player who will have an increased role in the offense.

Yoshi scored a bunch of goal line TDs last year. He does it again on a GREAT body control catch.

Bengals defense mostly played great against the pass, but their biggest slip-ups were in huge moments, starting with Cam Taylor-Britt letting Rashee Rice get behind him.
There’s no good reason why taylor britt slowed up there

Looked like quarters to me and Cam Taylor-Britt just didn’t stay over the top of the route. Smoked on the release and he never got hands on him.

He did come back and make an absolutely crazy interception with one hand to make up for it later.
See, sometimes you talk smack and back it up

Later on in the game, on a huge moment, Ja’Marr Chase makes an easily avoidable mistake, calling for a flag against the Chiefs and yelling at a ref, causing a 15-yard penalty that stopped a potential third-down conversion. They were able to make the field goal to take the lead, but the Chiefs had plenty of time.
Back to back weeks where Ja’Marr has absolutely inexcusable penalties

Joe Burrow should not have to be holding Ja’Marr Chase back from an official in the fourth quarter (any quarter) so he doesn’t get flagged. Insane.

The Bengals defense holds, but the Chiefs get the ball back with just over two minutes left. When it looks like the defense has made the stop it needs, the Chiefs get a pass interference call to get the win. They may not deserve that, but it is up to the fans. Let’s see what they have to say.

KC getting saved by the refs again, what’s new?
— Sticks (@___sticks___) September 15, 2024
Terrible call imo that’s essentially a Hail Mary rule and that’ll do it for the Bengals welp

The Bengals may have dropped to 0-2, but there were lots of positive signs. All their issues were fixable, and they played to the bell against the best team in the league.
Tough to think silver linings, but after a terrible opener, that showed pretty clearly that the Bengals are going to be a force again in the AFC. Lots of good to take from it—stuff that cost them the game was correctable.
No one will be surprised if we see a rematch on 1/26.
