Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …
Exclusive: Jalen Hurts And Bry Burrows Are Engaged! – Essence
Jalen Hurts has been “spoken for” for years, but he’s now officially off the market. ESSENCE can exclusively confirm that the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is engaged to his longtime partner, Bry Burrows. The couple shared exclusive images with ESSENCE from the day the star sportsman popped the question, including a look at the romantic backdrop for the moment. It included a violinist, candles, and red roses strewn about. We also get to see an intimate moment, with the two holding each other, looking out into the ocean.
8 things to watch when the Eagles host the Falcons – BGN
Robinson’s 18 carries went for just 68 yards (3.8 average) against the Steelers; he didn’t exactly light the world on fire. His longest run gained 13. But Robinson did also pitch in with five targets resulting in five catches for another 43 yards. Robinson’s efficiency was certainly not aided by Cousins’ limitations. If the Falcons quarterback isn’t even going to be used on play-action, well, it’s not like the defense is going to be kept honest. But, again, we could see the Falcons try to change their approach. Even if they don’t, slowing Robinson is still a concern. As detailed by BGN’s Jonny Page, the Eagles’ defense had issues with their run fits against the Green Bay Packers. The Birds allowed 21 total carries for 163 yards (7.8 average) and one touchdown. Even taking out the Jayden Reed end around and focusing on the running backs, Josh Jacobs had 16 carries for 84 yards (5.3 average) while third-string option Emanuel Wilson ripped off 46 yards on just four attempts (11.5 average). Running the ball a whole lot more could be one of the adjustments that the Falcons are planning to make. The Eagles need to prove they can avoid getting gashed on the ground.
Game picks for Falcons vs Eagles in Week 2 – The Falcoholic
The picks: Eagles (-6.5), over 47.5. I do think the Falcons offense looks sharper in this game, and Kirk Cousins knocks off a bit more rust. While the Eagles have a lethal pass rush, the rest of the defense is more vulnerable than the Steelers. All that considered, I don’t think Atlanta can topple Philadelphia in their home stadium. While Atlanta’s defense looked good against Pittsburgh, the Eagles are among the NFL’s most elite offenses. I could see the Falcons actually topping 20 points in this one, but the Eagles are almost certainly going to beat that number.
What I’m Hearing: Jordan Love’s timeline, what’s next with Watson, Cousins’ struggles – The Athletic
Saquon was almost a Texan. We all know the story by now — and if you don’t, go catch up on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” in which cameras followed Giants general manager Joe Schoen this past offseason. Giants owner John Mara probably won’t ever forget it either, telling Schoen, “I will lose sleep if we lose Barkley to the Eagles.” Well, Mara must not be getting much sleep these days (though for a few reasons). Saquon Barkley left the New York Giants as a free agent and signed with their division rival. Then we saw his electric debut with Philadelphia (three touchdowns, named NFC Offensive Player of the Week). GM Howie Roseman gave the running back a three-year deal, worth almost $13 million annually. It was big money for the Penn State alum, who tested the free-agent market for the first time and won.But Philly wasn’t the only team pushing to get Barkley in the building. The Houston Texans were aggressive in trying to land Barkley, but eventually were priced out. No worries for Houston; they traded for Joe Mixon from the Bengals instead.
NFL Week 2 picks, schedule, odds, injuries, fantasy tips – ESPN
Bold prediction: Bryce Huff posts a 20% pass rush win rate and gets his first sack as an Eagle. Huff didn’t have a great first game — 14.3% PRWR and one tackle — but it seemed like he struggled with grip on the field in Sao Paulo. That’s tough for a speed rusher.
How close is Cooper DeJean to being ready for full-time slot duty? – NBCSP
Cooper DeJean is going to be the Eagles’ full-time slot at some point. It seems inevitable. It’s just a matter of when. There were a lot of moving pieces in the secondary Friday night in the Eagles’ opener in São Paulo. With Isaiah Rodgers inactive with a hand injury, rookie 1st-round pick Quinyon Mitchell played virtually the entire game at outside corner – 63 of 67 snaps – and Avonte Maddox, who has been mainly a backup safety in training camp, was back in the slot, where he played 60 of 67 snaps. DeJean, the Eagles’ other rookie corner and the heir apparent to Maddox in the slot, got his first taste of the NFL with six snaps on defense and 23 on special teams. Rodgers returned to practice Thursday, so now you have Rodgers, Mitchell, Maddox and DeJean and three cornerback positions. What happens next?
Eagles’ O-line wants to help Saquon Barkley be more productive: ‘We got to tighten up our s***’ – NJ.com
“Yeah, it depends on what the game plan is,” Mailata said about their identity. “If Saquon’s number is being called, then we know we got to tighten up our s***. We got to be able to execute these blocks and execute these plays at a high level, so that we can capitalize on the overall scheme because we are going to be running the ball heavy now. But those things can be changed from game plan to game plan and even in-game to in-game. Could go in there on the first play and we’ll be like, ‘Let’s go heavy pass.’ Then, we realize, ‘Actually, let’s go heavy run.’”
Week 2 NFL picks: Can Bengals upset Chiefs at Arrowhead? Bears or Texans on Sunday night? – NFL.com
Why Brooke picked the Eagles: The Philadelphia offense experienced an up-and-down outing in the Brazil win. The Eagles had five plays of 20-plus yards, yet Jalen Hurts had three turnovers. Despite the fact that Hurts has been careless with the ball at times — he has at least one giveaway in his last six games — the man knows how to score. He has the second-most offensive TDs since the start of the 2023 season, behind only Josh Allen. Like Hurts, Kirk Cousins knows all too well about the turnover struggles; he had two bad picks in his debut with Atlanta. But unlike with Hurts, I don’t trust Cousins to regularly put up points, especially with the 36-year-old learning a new offense while coming off an Achilles injury. Both teams boast a bevy of offensive playmakers, and I give the Falcons the edge on defense, as they held the Steelers out of the end zone in Week 1 while the Eagles allowed seven plays of 20-plus yards and nearly 30 points to Green Bay. But I’ll take Hurts over Cousins any day and twice on Monday, when this game will be played at The Linc.
DirecTV, Disney settle their dispute, restoring ESPN and ABC to the service – PFT
Disney has announced that all networks will be restored on DirecTV as the companies dot i’s and cross t’s on a long-term deal. That means Falcons-Eagles will be available for all DirecTV customers on Monday night. Along with college football and all other ESPN offerings.
Cowboys, Saints injuries could tilt the odds in Dallas’ favor – Blogging The Boys
Losing Ferguson certainly hurts the offense, but his position is not one of the most crucial on the field. Having a great tight end absolutely benefits a team, but just having some average guys there doesn’t really crush a team, like say, losing a left tackle or a cornerback. And that might be what the Saints are looking at on Sunday. Veteran corner Marshon Lattimore is battling a hip/hamstring injury and his official status is questionable. But, he hasn’t practiced all week which is usually a bad sign. He could be joined by left tackle Taliese Fuaga, who is questionable with a back issue. He was limited on Wednesday, and didn’t practice the rest of the week. Fuaga is the 14th overall pick in the 2024 draft and had an outstanding first week.
Giants-Commanders Week 2 final injury report: Malik Nabers ‘good’ for Sunday – Big Blue View
The New York Giants got good news after getting a scare Thursday afternoon. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed Friday morning that rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is “good” and there are no concerns regarding his availability for Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders. Nabers popped up on the injury report Thursday afternoon when he was limited in practice with knee soreness. There was suddenly concern that the Giants could be without their most dangerous weapon in a potentially pivotal game. Fortunately, those concerns were quickly assuaged.
Commanders vs Giants Friday Injury Report: Three players questionable for home opener – Hogs Haven
The Washington Commanders are preparing for their Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants with a few players dealing with injuries. Emmanuel Forbes Jr injured his thumb during the Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers. He was pulled from yesterday’s practice and he had surgery for a torn UCL today. Dan Quinn said that he’s not expected to miss a lot of time, but he’s out this week and won’t be placed on injured reserve. Noah Igbinoghene played last week, and will be the first reserve up, with Michael Davis also getting playing time
Pittsburgh Steelers cut ties with shifty ex-Eagles running back – PennLive
The Pittsburgh Steelers have released running back Boston Scott from the practice squad. Scott initially ended up on the practice squad/injured list after an injury in his first practice with the team. The Steelers re-signed Aaron Shampklin, who remained with the team throughout training camp. Shampklin has impressed coaches enough to earn a spot over Scott, even if Scott is back and ready to practice.
Steelers list Russell Wilson, rookie WR as questionable, rule out LG Isaac Seumalo for Week 2 vs. Broncos – Behind The Steel Curtain
Though it’s now been officially confirmed, the Week 2 absence of starting left guard Isaac Seumalo isn’t unexpected, as his injury suffered in late August had a timetable of around a month for return. Second-year OL Spencer Anderson will get another start in his place.
Christian McCaffrey ruled out for 49ers-Vikings in NFL Week 2 – SB Nation
San Francisco 49ers fans waiting to see Christian McCaffrey make his 2024 season debut are going to wait at least another week. Perhaps even longer. After missing San Francisco’s opening game of the 2024 campaign, a 32-19 win over the visiting New York Jets, the running back has been officially declared out by head coach Kyle Shanahan. McCaffrey has been dealing with a calf injury, as well as Achilles tendonitis, during the early part of this season. In addition, Shanahan did not rule out a move to Injured Reserve for McCaffrey.
The Definitive Guide to the NFL’s New Dynamic Kickoff – The Ringer
The NFL’s dynamic kickoff is officially here, and it is both new and, frankly, weird. We got a taste of the dynamic kickoff in the preseason, but it’s quite obvious now seeing the difference in preseason and regular-season return rates (71 percent vs. 33 percent, respectively) that most teams were only feeling the new rules out in August. So I watched all 172 kickoffs from Week 1 to try to figure out exactly how the NFL’s new experiment is working now that the games count. To be honest, I went into the process wanting to hate the dynamic kickoff (change is hard!) and came out of it actually loving it. But before we get into the nine takeaways and trends I picked up from this deep dive into the dynamic kickoff, let’s recap what exactly is happening here, and why the NFL made this change.
