The Buffalo Bills defense had several players step up in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins. That’s going to have to continue.

Following the Bills’ 31-10 win over the Dolphins (1-1), head coach Sean McDermott updated the injury status of linebacker Terrel Bernard.

Bernard’s injury occurred during the first quarter and the Bills (2-0) reported the linebacker sustained a pectoral injury.

On Friday, McDermott said Bernard is slated to miss “multiple weeks.” The coach added injured reserve is not out of the question, either:

Already down one starting linebacker in Matt Milano (bicep) for an extended period, losing Bernard is not ideal.

In Miami, Baylon Spector entered the game when Bernard went down. Spector ended the contest with a team-high 10 tackles, as did Dorian Williams. Moving forward, Spector and Williams are the likely starters for Buffalo’s defense at linebacker.

While the Bills did get good efforts out of Spector and Williams in Week 2, it’s going to be a huge ask for those to continue going forward. Buffalo will have their fingers crossed.

Bills Wire will provide updates on Bernard as information is made available.
