All systems… Joe?
After the Cincinnati Bengals got upset by the New England Patriots, videos surfaced of franchise quarterback Joe Burrow flexing his wrist throughout the game. Burrow, who had a ligament repaired in his wrist last season, was seen moving the wrist on the sidelines and even a video of him grabbing a water bottle stirred up questions online.
On Wednesday, Burrow spoke with the media and shot down the idea that the wrist was having a negative impact on his play.
“No, absolutely not,” Burrow said when asked if the wrist was impacting his ability to throw the ball deep.
The Bengals offense showed a lack of downfield throws in Week 1, but Burrow attributed that more to New England’s defense and “taking what the defense gives me.”
When asked about the clips of him flexing his wrist throughout the game, Burrow said that it is something he has been doing and will continue to do.
“That’s part of ligament injuries,” Burrow said via ESPN’s Ben Baby. “If you don’t move it, you’re going to lose it, so I’m always moving it around, keeping it loose, keeping my mobility the way it’s supposed to be, so it’s going to continue to happen.”
A part of the clip showed Burrow grabbing a water bottle (in a really normal fashion for a bottle sitting in a holder on the ground), and fans speculated that there was an issue with the wrist. When asked about that, Burrow seemed to have no idea.
“I picked it up weird?” Burrow questioned.
With a chuckle, Burrow said, “I don’t know, I drank water.”
Heading in to a matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday, Burrow is not blaming his wrist for anything regarding his play. In a game that could have major playoff implications,
Burrow and the whole team will need to be better to leave Arrowhead with a victory.
