LA has re-sign CB Ahkello Witherspoon, the former Pittsburgh Steeler was a starter with the Rams in 2023
The Los Angeles Rams signed CB Darious Williams in the offseason with expectations that he would be one of the team’s starting corners. Unfortunately, Williams has been plagued by injuries all summer, and after re-tweaking his hamstring the week before game one, he was placed on IR. Now LA is dealing another injury in the secondary as CB Cobie Durant came down with a toe issue in Sunday’s matchup vs. Detroit.
Due to all of the injuries, the Rams were in need of some reinforcements for the back end of their defense and they seemed to have found that on Tuesday, opting to re-sign free agent CB Ahkello Witherspoon.

While Witherspoon may not be a top echelon corner, he did became a very serviceable and consistent player in his single-season with the Rams. The former Pittsburgh Steeler started all 17 games last year, recording 52 tackles, three tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions and 14 pass deflections.
There was chatter about the Rams bringing Witherspoon back all offseason but it never came to fruition. Now dealing with mounting injuries, the veteran corner’s return feels like a no brainer for Los Angeles.
With the possibility that Durant might not play Week 2 vs. the Cardinals, Witherspoon may be thrust into action early opposite of CB Tre White. Luckily for LA, Witherspoon is already familiar with the team’s defensive scheme and verbiage and should be ready to plug and play.
