A look at how Las Vegas’ rookie class fared in their debuts
Not many members of the Las Vegas Raiders’ rookie class played in a 22-10 road loss at the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Here is a look at the class and what to expect in Week 2 at the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Kickoff is at 10 a.m. PT.:
Brock Bowers:
Bowers was the bright light of the rookie class against the Chargers and for the whole team for that matter. He had a team-high six catches for 58 yards on a team-high eight targets. He showed no signs of a foot injury that sidelined him for three weeks. He was on the field for 68 percent of the offensive snaps and none on special teams. The No. 13 overall pick is a major weapon, who is already paying dividends for the Raiders. He might put up big, big numbers as a rookie.
Jackson Powers-Johnson:
The second-round pick from Oregon was inactive with an illness. He has been dealing with health issues since the offseason sessions. At some point soon, The team hopes Powers-Johnson will be able to take over at left guard for free-agent addition Cody Whitehair.
D.J. Glaze:
The third-round pick from Maryland was the only other draft pick than Bowers to be active against the Chargers The backup tackle didn’t play any on offense and he played just three snaps on special teams.
Decamarion Richardson:
The fourth-round pick was out with a hamstring injury. The team hopes the cornerback can return soon.
Tommy Eichenberg:
The fifth-round pick was ruled on game day with a knee injury. The linebacker from Ohio State dealt with injuries most of the preseason.
Dylan Laube:
He is starting out as a fourth-string running back. The sixth-round pick was a healthy scratch. He must beat out veteran Ameer Abdullah to on the field unless there are injuries.
Not on roster
Seventh-round pick, safety Trey Taylor is on the injured reserve, for, at least, four games, and seventh-round pick, cornerback M.J. Devonshire was cut and is on the practice squad.
Undrafted free agents:
Linebacker Amari Gainer, wide receiver Ramel Keyton, safety Thomas Harper, defensive tackle Jonah Laulu. Gainer and Laulu were active, while Keyton and Harper were inactive. Gainer played 19 snaps on special teams (so he played the second most to Bowers of all rookies) and Laulu played one on special teams.
